First I made chocolate covered bacon (bakers choc. over thick-cut organic uncured bacon)...

Then I tried coconut butter (let's do organic brand "coconut cream")...

Then decided why not both?

Making this stuff at home only requires the ability to boil water (for melting chocolate and coconut butter) and frying up some bacon, so I couldn't imagine paying someone else to do it for me, but I can see how the nice, professionally boxed chocolate-covered bacon would make a great gift, especially if you wanted to send it to a friend or relative.

(recipes here, check "bacon - aka 'meat candy' section)

I bought some for the novelty but was not so enamored that I needed to buy it again.

I'm sure a homemade version with good quality chocolate and bacon would be awesome and makes a great stocking stuffer.

I've made something like this, using freshly fried bacon and baker's chocolate, no sweetener. It was tasty, but very intensely so, and I'm not sure I really liked the two tastes together. I could only eat about 1.5 pieces before it was too much.

I was intensely disappointed with the Vosges dark chocolate and bacon bar -- the chocolate was really not up to their standard and the bacon bits in it just tasted like bland, mealy, stale bacon. Ick.

But I would try this stuff if I still ate sugared chocolates.

Funny that they advise eating it within 20 days -- frankly, neither bacon nor chocolate sits around my house that long.

right? I'm going to try to make this myself actually...can't be hard a little Green & Blacks 85% Dark Choc and some thick strips of smoke maple bacon from TJs and I'll be good to go! – San Diego Dude Nov 18 2011 at 0:37
Ha I was about to suggest something similar... especially since we don't know what they cooked the bacon in or what's in the chocolate. I'll be using some sugar-free Baker's chocolate. How could you screw up a combo like this?! – Phazo Nov 18 2011 at 0:51
