I'm looking at alternatives to whey protein like Pea, Egg and Hemp proteins. I use MyProtein.com in the UK: any thoughts on the following products?

Cheers

Out of the proteins, I would go whey, beef/egg protein, hemp, and pea in that order. Vegetable proteins just don't hold a candle to animal proteins for protein cost/benefit. – James Nov 19 2011 at 12:55
Would gelatin fit your needs? – Korion Nov 19 2011 at 14:06

Why not just eat more meat, fish, eggs, and other protein rich foods? The paleo diet is all about eating real, whole foods not processed powders.

Probably depends on his goals. He might want to be boosting protein levels for bodybuilding type activities without eating a ton of food. – James Nov 19 2011 at 12:43

Protein Powder is far, far, from Paleo.

I love Whey and the results I get from it; basically the only dairy in my diet but there's nothing that compares to it for muscle growth and recovery. Not for everyone but a Paleo approach with a little dairy has been proven effective for those wanting to perform athletically.

Egg whites and powders are oxidized cholesterol.

Pea is a legume.

Hemp was historically used as a plant fiber far before then food. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp

These protein powders tend to be used by vegan or vegetarian people.

All are inferior to pastured meats and wild seafood but you could probably use them a few times a week.

The hubby and I used to use whey, egg, and pea powders but post-Paleo we can't stand the taste of them.

We prefer real food to powders!
