Thinking about giving Polysorbate-80 a go as an inexpensive hair, scalp treatment. My hair has started to thin a bit of late, which prompted some googling & i saw mention of polysorbate 80.
Anyway, i'm looking for feedback/comments on this stuff, how does it work/what exactly does it do (mechanism, studies, research...), have you tried it (or know someone who has), results, did it have any effect, was it any good, bad, neither, you get the idea.....thx

& If it's of any relevance; I am a male. Every now & again my scalp feels a bit itchy or ticklish. I do Not have any flaky skin or dandruff.

update: just did some more searching & have been unable to find any real bad or negative stuff about it (apart from it does nothing etc), so i'll give it try/test for myself

You might look into Peter Proctor's products. I know he makes use of it, but I don't believe he finds it very helpful as a standalone...

I've been using it for many years now, it seems to help quite a bit. I just buy the generic stuff with biotin in it, it's quite cheap. In the shower, wet your hair a little bit, rub in a few drops of the stuff into your scalp and massage it in for about 3 minutes, then wash it out.

The biggest thing since going paleo is to make sure I get enough carbs. While I want to get into ketosis and stay there, doing so causes me hair loss quickly, so I try to at least get 100g of carbs/day.

I've not tried this, and it's certainly not paleo, but Danny Roddy's Hair Like a Fox thing seems interesting. I don't want to start drinking OJ and milk, so it's not for me, since too much dairy causes me acid reflux. Also, I've still got a few pounds to burn off, so the fructose he recommends is not something I'd want to ingest.

But if you'd like to experiment, go for it and see if it works for you. :)

thx raydawg. i have seen two polysorbate products locally; one is 100% polysorbate-80. The other lists three ingredients in this order; Polysorbate-80, Biotin, Niacin. ....Which one do reckon i should try? – daz Nov 24 2011 at 23:58
Go for the one that has all 3. – raydawg Nov 26 2011 at 1:34

I used to use P-80 years ago, just make sure it doesnt contain parabens like many do, or you may grow hair, but have no testosterone!
