I pretty much planned to screw my diet Thanksgiving...I didnt get to go home to my family, and I live in Alabama(who wants deep fried cheese and bread?!)...so I had very little say in what was cooked. I decided that its Thanksgiving, and I am going to make the best of a crappy situation (I have friends who invited me over, so HELL IM GOING TO EAT AND BE THANKFUL!).

I am now feeling the "gluten hangover". How do you recover from serious cheat days like Thanksgiving (or any other large holiday feast)?!

Time heals all wounds. If you have the day off today just relax. I tend to drink tons of water if I have a big cheat meal. I don't know why my body is so thirsty afterwards, but I feel better when drinking lots of water.

You could either get right back on the horse (your normal paleo routine) or you could go the "pay the piper" route (fasting, extra exercise, etc.)

In either case, I feel like it is always best to let go of any feelings of failure, fear, etc. Enjoy your holiday, enjoy your family/friends, enjoy stuffing yourself to the gills, sleep it off, then enjoy going back to feeling good afterwards.

+1 for no guilt or self-loathing. Cheats should be enjoyed, else what's the point? :) – January Nov 26 2011 at 1:26

It may feel like your a long ways away from feeling good again but a few good choices will get you right back on track.

Im feeling a little hungover this morning as well and Here are some things I plan to do:

1) Sleep - I may take a nap in the afternoon or likely just get to bed at an early time tonight. Sleep is the ultimate cure.

2) Fast - Im skipping breakfast and don't plan to eat again until Im REALLY hungry. There's no need to keep adding food if your body is still breaking down all the crap you ate yesterday.

3) Move - Intense exercise probably wont make me feel any better but walking around and moving my body definitely will. I plan to go for a long walk and do some modified yoga outside.

4) Hydrate - I dont feel the need to drink much water when Paleo but cheats definitely increase the need for it. I will be making sure I drink enough today.

I didn't go overboard with my eating- a few bites of the "forbidden (stuffing and pie)", and the rest paleo foods. Got a good nights sleep, and went for a run this morning. Now I'm sitting here eating breakfast (an apple and some sunflower seed butter mixed with coconut oil).

Luckily I'm feeling ok today but was thinking I'd probably do a Black Friday broth fast. I took digestive enzymes with my meal & I guess they helped- I had stuffing, 2 rolls and a piece of gluteny apple pie and didn't get all bloated, yay.
