I had a sore throat about 4 weeks ago. Lost my voice but it never really developed into a full blown cold and I didn't take any time off work or take anything for it really. Trouble is a month later I still have a tickly cough which is stopping me sleeping and actually getting embarrassing at meetings, etc. Every cough remedy out there involves sugar - from over-the-counter cough medicines and cough sweets through to 'natural' remedies which always involve honey and often alcohol. It's driving me nuts now so anyone got any suggestions? A trip to the doctor will of course result in antibiotics.

I endorse trying bone broth, but I use the folk remedy of warm water with honey. Since it's a "whole food" used by humans forever, a small spoonful seems innocuous and it does work for me. Another idea is full-fat yogurt; I find it very soothing to inflamed tissues wherever they may be. Although yogurt could be considered dairy and a processed food, I have no trouble with it despite being lactose intolerant and I make it myself at home to avoid additives. |

Homemade ginger tea is great. Just hot water and grated ginger. Steaming is really helpful to. I put a little tea tree and lavender in the water. It has an added bonus of being great for the skin. Feel better <3 |

Warm bone broth would be my first choice, followed by hot tea if bone broth is not immediately available. You could also try some apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. I'm not sure how effective that would be, but I know some people swear by it--although most also add honey. Using a humidifier in your bedroom at night can also help ease a dry cough. |
