If my acne and skin become noticeably improved with 15,000 IU of vitamin A daily from cod liver oil, can I reasonably conclude that I need 15,000 IU of it daily for improved health? Or does vitamin A mask a deeper cause of acne?

Stop taking the Vitamin A. If you're acne comes back, and you start taking Vitamin A again and your skin clears, then yes you could say that Vitamin A helped to improve your acne. Also try taking it with zinc; there have been studies that zinc + vitamin A also helps. http://archderm.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/99/4/469

Acne is usually caused by a high metabolism which keeps the skin oily(which is good), your immune system needs vit A to combat the bacteria on your oily skin. I personally think vit A needs are very high and take ~50000IU daily, been doing this for months with nothing but health benefits. |
