What exactly are you trying to control your blood sugar to?
Before I went paleo, I was around 110 on average, after paleo for a month (and losing weight) I was down to the mid 90's. Now I'm around 88 (before I stopped measuring). Not exactly diabetic/intolerant, but I liked the way it went.
I've used R-Alpha Lipoic acid to get into ketosis faster and to help offset carbs in a meal. It's pretty expensive though. I don't know I would use it on an ongoing basis to control blood sugar. It's a bit of a crutch, and can make your sugar too low. Cinnamon's also supposed to help, but seems a bit hit or miss from what I've seen on the diabetic boards in the past.
Also, take a look at Apple Cider Vinegar. There were some studies that it reduces carb absorbtion prior to a meal.

Either way, I'd recommend going low carb for at least a month instead. Cut all grains/starches/legumes/etc. Also, do you have a blood sugar meter? I'd take that and start measuring away to see where your blood sugar is going during the day and after meals. 30 min after waking up (because blood sugar tends to spike right after waking). Before meal, after meal, hour after meal, 2 hours after meal. Expect to be a pin cushion.
