It's a crazy idea, but it just might work ?! In the midst of some colitis pain yesterday, I began thinking about how (at least for my colitis type), some lubrication in the system might ease the pain of an inflamed colon trying to pass waste. Bonus points if the lubrication source promoted healing or good flora, since its been theorized that colitis is the product of a bacterial imbalance. Naturally, this led me to coconut oil, with its caprylic acid and appropriateness for internal and external use.

To make the actual suppositories, I figured that I would coax semi-solid coconut oil into a bullet-like shape with spoons, and then freeze the bullets.

Has any tried something like this before? Any reasons why this would or wouldn't be a good thing to try?

Well if they don't work you could always chocolate coat the rest and use them for treats! – henny Dec 6 2011 at 3:12

There are all kinds of alternative colitis treatments that show effectiveness, from taking boswellia to fecal transplants to mutaflor enemas. And while they may work, the best I think is a long term Walter Voegtlin VLC approach. Zero carb seems most effective. It attacks the bad gut flora + low immunity problem at the root instead of acting as a band aid like most other treatments do. A suppository probably won't reach far enough to change the complete flora when undigested FODMAPs still arrive in the large intestine.
