I follow a primal diet including full fat dairy. I'd describe my carb intake as low to moderate, eg a serve of fruit or two per day, small serve of tubers about every second day, occasional dark chocolate & wine. I've been travelling happily with good health and lots of activity since about March. Suddenly about a week ago, I was struck with mild heart burn (which I have only previously experienced during pregnancy) and thrush/candida (which I also haven't experienced since my non-primal pregnancy years ago). I'm not pregnant, by the way.

Are these two things linked? Why is this happening all of a sudden? What should I do next?

I remember Paul Jaminet mentioning at the WAPF convention that Low Carb diets could potentially be risky for those with past Candida issues... I don't follow his exact diet myself, but I find his information to be interesting and well thought out...

here's a link to a similar paleohacks question outlining a couple of people's n=1 experiences:

and a link to the the Jaminet's Perfect Health Diet Page if you'd like to learn more about their approach...

Good luck- hope this helps. :)

Thanks, that does seem to be the best the paleosphere has on the candida issue. However as far as I can see, all Paul really says is that candida can survive on ketones, which doesn't tell me much (after all, they can survive on glucose too). I think for the main part he is trying to point out that people can't cure candida just by going low carb. – esque Dec 9 2011 at 3:16
