There's been hype about Manuka honey - it's pretty pricey. Anyone like to offer their experience for that product or any very raw honey? Worth it or not? TIA.

It's active ingredient is methyglyoxal, which is some pretty scary stuff to eat. – Jay Dec 8 2011 at 4:00

I only use manuka for wound healing. It's just not cost effective either. I think raw and local (if you can get it) is more than fine for eating.

I agree. Raw & Unfiltered local honey is what's needed for normal consumption. You only go for Manuka if you need it as a strong medication of sorts. – Eugenia Dec 8 2011 at 3:20

I deliberately stick to honey from my immediate area as that is reputed to benefit your immune system if you have reactions to spring flowers/trees.

I buy raw because the honey in supermarkets has all pollen removed.

EDIT: Yikes, I forgot to answer your question. When I first decided to use the honey in my 2-3 mugs of coffee, total of about 1 tbsp, I check my blood glucose a number of times and it never rose more than 10 points. I like the taste and I haven't noticed anything negative at all.
