Sure they are all good, but which is your go to sea dweller? For what your spending which of these buggers do you feel give you the greatest benefit. Oysters, clams, crawdads, crab, shrimp, scallops, or other....which do you like and why?

My faves to eat are shrimp and scallops (yum) but my latest go-to for the nutritional bang for my buck are mussels. More nutrients per oz than the common shellfish. Better yet, farmed mussels are sustainable and don't have the problems other farmed seafood do. Next on my list are oysters for a slightly different nutrient profile.

yah, love scallops and oysters also. Have eaten mussels for the "buck" part. I think last time I got scallops they were pulling in like 16$/lb or something. – JayJay Dec 9 2011 at 0:46

Thanks for the tip on farmed mussels being OK. – JayJay Dec 9 2011 at 0:46
Yeah, that makes mussels a safer choice most times than shrimp (alas). – Beth-WeightMaven Dec 9 2011 at 1:07

I love them all. We used to pick our own clams and mussels on the beach behind our old house and then, after cleaning them, steam them open with white wine, parsley, and chopped garlic.

We have a good friend who brings us fresh shrimp/prawns and crabs a few times a year (we trade veggies and raspberries).

Scallops are yummy but pricey and we don't get crawdads.

My favourite all around shellfish would be prawns.

Oysters for sure. Their nutirent profile gets you most of the goodies that are in liver - and I've noticed that folks who don't like liver like oysters. To me they are so delicious and super filling; whereas I feel like I can eat my weight in scallops, mussels, clams and prawns (which isnt' very cost-effective!)
