We don't eat graham crackers nor milk chocolate nor marshmallows (most of us, anyhow), so what do we roast over open flames?
I suppose chestnuts are an option, though I've never done it. Any other suggestions for small items to roast?

Meat, meat, meat, and more meat. Some people also like to roast veggies but I prefer meat. |

We experimented with lots of foods because we camp a lot, and we finally landed on dates...they are delicious, they go on a stick easily, kids love them, and a few are plenty satisfying...it's easiest with pitted dates. Of course there are plenty of options if you're after savory, we marinate steaks, bring them in the cooler, and cook them in our camping grill over the coals, then we always have lots of sausages and hot dogs...root veggies in foil tucked in the coals are lovely as well. |

We roast the members of our enemy tribe, who dare to cross into Paleotopia. OK, probably not, but I would say just about any muscle or organ meat would work. Food on a stick. It'll be just like a summer state fair without the bad cover bands. |

You can throw yams, sweet potatoes, russet potatoes, etc. onto the coals. Eventually the skin gets torched and you eat the inside. I suppose you could do something similar over the fire, but I've only tried that with new potatoes. |

I tried roasting a raw egg over the fire once, and it actually worked! It was awesome. Make sure you poke a hole in the egg, or it'll probably explode. And yes, I used the skewer and put the egg on it! :-) Everyone should try it! |

you can essentially make a kebab, and roast meats and veggies over the fire on a spit. In my fraternity we would also roast bratwurst or similar things instead of marshmallows. Granted, they didn't start out raw, but it sure was fun. |

Bananas. Seriously. Do it. Even better if you slice open a banana, throw a bit of dark chocolate in there, wrap it up in tinfoil and then roast it. Oh my God heaven. |

Bones or why not make it a paleo-esque dinner and roast a roast around the campfire? |

I haven't tried it myself, but I saw skewered chicken hearts cooked over an open fire on Globe Trekker, and I'm still drooling thinking about it 6 months later. I have cooked prawns on a stick over a camp fire with amazing results, and then dipped them in Mae Ploy sauce (it is a sugar bomb, but super tasty. If anyone comes up with a paleo version of this sauce I'd be forever grateful). |

Starburst candies. No kidding, I was introduced to this at camp and it is amazing. Just be sure to watch closely so that the candy doesnt melt off the stick. |
