Background: I have been doing Paleo for about 6 months. I lost 17 lbs. I am still overweight but feel great. I recently had a physical and got my bloodwork done. The month prior to the bloodwork was not good as far as Paleo diet. I ate too many simple carbs and was sort of off the wagon (though still eating way better than I did before discovering Paleo). My resutls came back today. My C Reactive Protein is 82.5! Is that even possible!? Here are two factors that may matter. I happened to have a horrible cold/flu when getting the test and the doctor said I had an ear infection also. And I was on my period. I am freaking out a bit and thinking I might be dropping dead at any second! Can someone give me some feedback on this and recommend what I do next? Thanks!
EDIT: can someone direct me to a paleo friendly bloodwork result explanation also? My HDL is lower than what is recommended but I know that there are different ways of interpreting the tests thanks.
Mine was really high before too, but it had some note right next to it that stated I had to have had an infection to get that result.
When I checked it again a year later, it was around 1.1
The last time I got test results, it said right on the sheet of paper that you shouldn't get tested if you have a cold or a bacterial infection. I think it said to wait three weeks after you were over the illness and then get tested. When you're sick, your immune system is very active and inflamed and the CRP test will be way out of whack!
How r your other inflammation markers? CRP is often accompanied by ESR, which shouldn't be as high CRP, if that's pretty specific to the inflammation locus. You need a copy of your entire blood work. You can't try to piece together what's going on by some quote your doctor gives your for selected items. That would be detective work and also one-sided.
