Does anybody out in cyberspace know what percent of Americans eat a largly paleo diet?

Four of the top 20 books on Nutrition/Health on Amazon have paleo in the title. Robb Wolf made the NY Times bestseller list. There are enough people doing this to support a number of paleo gurus financially (Sisson/Wolf/DeVaney). If you add in Primal/WAPF/Ancestral, it's huge. If you consider low carbers that eat pretty clean, others who are gluten/wheat free, people on GAPS, CRON - heck even raw vegans are doing a subset of paleo. Almost everyone I talk to is aware of at least two of the three NADS - whether or not they do anything is another matter. Sugar, duh! Even CW says cut back a little. Most people have heard of gluten intolerance or the wonders of omega-3 (if not the dangers of omega-6). |

Technically, no one. It should just be a real/whole/unadulterated/raw lifestyle. |

I've been eating paleo for 3 weeks now. I'm only eating raw fruits, raw veggies and cooked meats. That's the only part of my food choices I'm not happy about (cooked meat) because I feel like cooking it alters it, but until I find a farm where I agree with their methods of raising livestock, I won't be eating raw meat yet. I have zero cravings and my energy has SKY ROCKETED!!! I've lost 12 lbs, that's without exercising, and the dark circles under my eyes are starting to fade. I was diagnosed with a whole host of medical problems including PCOS, Hypothyroidism, IBS, indoor/outdoor/seasonal allergies, just to name the big ones.. I have been through years of taking medication for these diseases with no improvement. I was trying to lose weight, since my doctor said I had to lose weight along with the medication in order to correct my problems.. Well, I took my pills, I went to the gym, worked out for hours a day, and after about 6 months of eating the "right" foods, taking my pills and exercising several times a week, I didn't lose ONE single pound, and NONE of my symptoms went away!!!!... That was the first time I said, "there has to be something else that these doctors don't know about.."... After years of research and listening more to the "crazy" holistic people instead of modern medicine, I've come to understand that my health problems exist because I have been unknowingly poisoning my body with everything I have been told was good for me!! I heard of gluten free living and decided to do a test run. I went gluten free for 2 weeks, still ate the same amount, still ate carbs and junk food, but completely cut out anything that contained (or was suspected of containing) gluten. 12 lbs, poof gone, in two weeks, no exercising, no cutting back on portions. I even read that there's a big chance that adrenal fatigue is the underlying factor to all my health problems (especially PCOS), which is caused by too much stress on the body, stress caused by things like food intolerances.. I researched and researched and researched, but now I've decided, a raw paleo lifestyle is the best way a human being can eat, this lifestyle I'm certain will heal my body and bring me back to my whole, perfect self, back to the way my body is supposed to function. I'm not eating any oils or sugar/sweeteners, nothing processed, no matter how "pure" people say it is, no legumes (faux nuts.. did you know that cashews are poisonous when raw?), to me, that is not true paleo. Also, aside from me thinking it tastes terrible, I doubt cavemen squeezed olive oil out of an olive and put it on their lettuce, or mash up macadamia nuts just for the oil and then discarded the nut... Maybe I'm just being a snob, but IMO, if you give yourself any slack, then where is the line drawn? Adding things that cavemen truly didn't eat makes it non-paleo, and opens you up to poison foods again. |
