Help! On the weekend, I succumed to social pressures in the most horrible way and went on a major binge. I had a chicken quesadilla one night, and a couple pieces of french toast in attempt to remedy my hangover the next day. (For background information- I have been eating fairly paleo for the past few months with the occasional chocolate bar or treat on the side) Since the morning after the quesadilla, I've been incredibly swollen/bloated in my abdomen and now it's descended into my groin area. Needless to say, it's not very comfortable.

I just wanted to see if anyone here had any similar experiences? (If not, I may consult my doctor since the bloating doesn't seem to be going down much)

Thanks!

More specifically, I'm worried that the swelling has decended into my groin region because I have never heard of this happening as a result of gluten consumption. Anyone heard of this happening – Tiffany Aug 10 2010 at 16:36
When you say groin, do you mean the actual groin muscles at the very top of your legs or are you talking genitalia too? There are a ton of glands around there that could be infected if there is swelling and pain. – Hannah Aug 10 2010 at 16:55
It's both the genitals and groin muscles, which makes me think that it may be unrelated, but I wanted to see if anyone had to heard of gluten causing this before calling my doctor. – Tiffany Aug 10 2010 at 17:05

Go the doctor right away if genitals are swollen! I have never ever heard of gluten causing something like this. Swelling usually=infection. – Hannah Aug 10 2010 at 17:16

When I first went lowcarb (before paleo was super popular and I had never heard of it), I was very very strict low carb for about 8 months. THen I went to a party and there was cake and I cracked under pressure and totally pigged out on multiple pieces of chocolate cake. Some time later, I got the WORST intestinal probs I ever had and could not stray too far from the bathroom for several days. I could have eaten that cake and been fine before the lowcarb, but after 8 months of not eating sugar nor grains nor starches, my system simply could not deal well with a giant hoard of cake. The probs passed after a few days though and I was fine.

Now on paleo, I am actually a bit more relaxed about eating. I eat some fruit and once in a while, I'll eat a bite of cake and I'm fine later. Balance and moderation may be the key. Now I cheat in tiny increments once in a while. Whereas before it was a situation of supremene strictness punctuated by a massive binge! -Eva

I have celiac. When I get glutened, low abdomen is where the pain hits -- celiac, recall, is an intestinal problem. It can be pretty sharp and awful for a day or two.
