Hi dear friends, I'm new and this is my first question , I seem to have suddenly developed a hair fall problem.it's been more than two weeks now,and I'm scared to the point of touching or even combing my hair. I know hair fall is a seasonal thing, but this time is abnormally too much.Any remedies, ideally home remedies, or herbal would be appreciated, also otherwise. By the way I think I forgot to mention, I'm on a very strick diet and have lost more than 10 kgs in 3 months( my cardiologist would'nt have it any other way). Thanks for your upcoming responces.

I think what you're experiencing is alopecia. Do some google searches and find out exactly what type of alopecia you have. It's probably an auto-immune disease, and very hard to treat other than waiting it out and not eating inflammatory foods. Stress (any stress, like changing your diet) can be a trigger. – wmertens Dec 20 2011 at 9:43

You mention that you changed your diet three months ago. This suggests that the cause of your hair loss is telogen effluvium, because on average, with that condition, three months is the length of time that passes between the inciting event and the loss of hair.

The same thing happened to me. I changed my diet, and a few months later, my hair suddenly began to fall out by the handful. It was so bad that I started shaving my head.

In my case it turned out to be telogen effluvium and all the hair grew back a few months later.

Glass Dragonfly is describing the same thing. In my case, though, the loss continued for several weeks and was very noticeable in the mirror.

If it's telogen effluvium, you don't need to worry. It will take a few months for the hair to grow back. All you need to do is stay well nourished, which of course you should do anyway.

I had quite a bit of hair loss about four months after changing my diet. I have a lot of hair and it is quite long. I was shocked to see a "handful" of hair in the shower and had a bit of a panic. I did some serious Googling and decided that it was the shock of the drastic change in diet that bumped my hair out of it's normal anagen/telogen cycle. The loss period only lasted a couple of days (that I remember) and I couldn't see it in the mirror. Thank goodness.

Now, several months later, I am noticing a LOT of regrowth! I just went in for a trim and my hairstylist noticed too.

I can't say what is going on with you, two weeks seems like a long time, but I wanted to share my experience. For the record, I am keeping my diet fairly low carb.

@vidasandii, are you taking medications? If so, what? And what types of foods have you been eating--and avoiding?

I take pencillin injections once every 21 days. . and have been avoiding rice, sugar, milk products and goods made of white flour. Also as much as possible I avoid food cooked in oil. No tea or coffee, just hot water with honey. – vidasandii Dec 20 2011 at 5:08
Forgot to mention.... No junk food at all. – vidasandii Dec 20 2011 at 5:09

Start taking vitamin D3 if you are not already. Dropping dairy likely left you with less D.

Screams of a thyroid issue to me (low T3).

What's your calorie/carbohydrate intake? And what do you need to maintain weight.
