Everytime I eat sugar in the form of fruits, plain sugar, etc, I get acne and headaches few hours after ingesting. Everytime. The only exception is starch. My doctor diagnosed Candida overgrowth, based on Kinesiology.

Is there any possibility that there is another cause than candida?

What is your diet like?

I am 22. I struggled with acne from 15-19. It was really awful.

I used to break out almost immediately after eating fruit too, but that was when I was also eating bread, pasta, and other non-paleo food. I thought it was the sugar too, so I hopped on the internet and went looking for answers. Thinking I had candida after doing a ton of research, I went and had a colon cleansing and started drinking herbal tea and just about doing everything to get rid of acne and what I thought was candida overgrowth.

I felt a little better, but it didn't get rid of my acne. After reading Loren Cordain's book, I changed my diet. It took me a little over a year to completely get rid of my acne by eating paleo. My acne went away though.

It no longer controls me.

Sure, sometimes I get an occasional pimple, but only if I eat bread, wheat products or something that I know isn't paleo. And when/if I do get a pimple, they are small and they go away by themselves almost immediately once I eat right.

I can eat a ton of fruit now and not break out though.

I eat vegetables (mostly non-starchy expect on workout days), fruit, meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and drink water.

Oh and a big mistake I made when I started paleo was I ate a ton of carrots. I would always crave them and they're cheap and easy to eat. Don't make the same mistake, they actually prevented me from seeing results.

If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help. Acne sucks... let's get rid of it for good. :]

I tried paleo and it made things 90% better. I have zero acne when I eat low-carb. But fruits still make things worse, despite paleo. thx for answering btw. – Primordial Dec 21 2011 at 19:36

I have the same problem. I haven't eaten sugar in 2 years other a teaspoon here or there, but recently even a teaspoon in something is enough to set off the pimples. (I have antibiotic cream that makes them go away but I don't think depending on it is a good solution.) Fruit gives me this exhaustion that is centered in my head. Honey too. I'm trying an elimination diet to see if it is amines or anything since I have no other candida symptoms and have been paleo for almost 2 years.

Headaches post carb could be from temporary dehydration due to the carbs sucking up water. Do you really break out with acne a few hours after eating fruit or plain sugar, pimples literally grow within a few hours after sugar ingestion?

and PS, your Dr. is completely full of it - Imho.

No dude, its based on Kinesiology. – Kasra Dec 20 2011 at 22:13
why is he full of it? cause its not evidence based medicine? – Primordial Dec 20 2011 at 22:14
Well first of all Kinesiology is the study of human movement, and second because sugar causes hormone responses which cause acne. He wants to say that "Sugar = Candida = Acne per Kinesiology", which is pure bullshit. Completely messed up insulin sensitivity causes Candida overgrowth due to excessive chronic blood sugar and usually involves other factors, we can stop right there but its worth mentioning that Candida is not defined as a medical cause of 'acne', ever. – Bill1102inf Dec 21 2011 at 0:07

If you can eat starches ok, its because they convert to glucose and lack fructose which is in fruit and equally in 'regular sugar' (sucrose). - Get a blood test liver panel and lipid panel done and stay away from sucrose/fructose/fruit/high fructose corn syrup. - Im not a Dr. but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night. – Bill1102inf Dec 21 2011 at 0:18

Candida is not the cause, it's a symptom of a much deeper underlying problem. Your immune system cannot control the fungus by itself. The cause could be unbalance in your body due to toxins (eating unhealthy, vaccines, antibiotics etc). In that case you need to do detox.

What the? Your doctor diagnosed an organism living in your intestinal tract based on "the scientific study of human movement"?

Something tells me you need a new doctor..

For the record eating LOTS of fruit and even some sucrose every day helped my skin a lot.. I still rock some retinol/liver in my diet too, seems to improve things too. K2, D, A, E, zinc, magnesium.. the works. Less vegetables, more fruit for me.
