This is about a dear friend of mine living in Belgium, recently diagnosed with cancer.

have been mentioning to him for a while ketogenic diets and high-dose supplementation (D3, K2, Selenium, Mg, curcumin, CoQ10 etc). He eschews conventional treatment (chemo, operation) as the situation is not life-threatening (rare form of skin cancer attacking the eye) but it could blind him in an unpredictable timeframe.

I believe he'd give it a go given the proper medical support. So... is anybody aware of a good paleo-doctor reference in Belgium or neighboring countries? Someone who could consider it and work with him from the perspective of, say, the Quilt?

Thanks for any and all references.

I would strongly urge your friend to seek "conventional" treatment in addition to following a healthy diet, optimizing his vitamin d status, etc. Cancer is most curable when treated early; the worst possible advice one could give your friend would be to try to treat it via alternative medicine and then to turn to conventional methods if the former don't "work out."

I agree with the recommendation to seek conventional treatment.

The University Hospital in Wuerzburg/Germany has been pioneering high-fat low-carb approaches to cancer (<40g a day). http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1662484,00.html and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3157418/

They used to have links posted in German and English with advice on how and what to eat, but those links seem to be no longer there.

Dr Andreas Eenfeldt is in Sweden and is a low carb, High fat physician. http://www.dietdoctor.com/about

He made a presentation at Ancestral Health Symposium 2011.

Total elimination of sugar in any form starves cancer of nutrients to cell divide.

Gert Schuitemaker at Ortho is a good orthomolecular physician. I don't know to what degree he is also paleo, but it might be worthwhile to find him and ask for advice. he is on twitter, @gschuitemaker

Hope this helps!
