So yeah i am currently residing at a backpackers in Melbourne (for locals: St. Kilda) and i am getting tired of eating kangaroo sausages ad raw veggies (suprisingly clean food ... ). I am looking for easy paleo recipies that can be whipped up on a minimal budget with only a sauté pan, a saucepan, a crappy knife and a microwave. So far i've come up with

  • various omelettes, especially sweet potatoe omelette
  • kangaroo meatballs/patties thai style
  • banana pancakes
  • all kinds of curries, though vegies are kinda expensive around these parts
  • beef liver (seriously, 80 cents for 250 grams) and onions

Hackers, any ideas/recipies how this guy can take his cooking and saving to the next level? Cheers!

I admire your resourcefulness, there in crap-ola motel yet with a few basic utensils, a desire to eat well, and an Internet connection. Rock on, good person. – Dorado Galore Dec 28 2011 at 7:03

At the end of the day you can get a free range cooked chicken from Woolworths really cheaply - would do quite a few meals

I love to make a trail mix of raisins, coconut chips, and almonds.

Off to backpack through China in April, me thinks trail mixes will be an ace option over there! – Jan Dec 29 2011 at 4:25

Lamb here is all grass fed and very yummy- on a salad just delish - Chicken also - we eat lots of avo and lettuce here due to the heat - woolies sells sausages with no filler - they are about $5 a tray - look for the ones with no carbs!

Remember that there are lots of electric powered BBQ's about - cook some fish up in the park on them so you dont offend. There are a ton of options you just need to head over to the butcher or Woolies/Coles to get them.

Sausaged with no filler – haven't noticed them before. Thanks for the hint! – Jan Dec 29 2011 at 4:43
