Tomorrow night my family and I are going to be out int DC and going to Fuddruckers before a hockey game. I know they will have a buffalo burger, and also might have a boar and elk burger too. Of this options, which is best? The website says they are grain and grass fed, but I figured this was better than completely grain fed. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!

Wow, didn't know they have boar, elk and buffalo burgers. Which is best on what your taste is. I would think elk and boar would taste gamey, if they're wild boar and elk. Buffaloes/bison, I am sure whether they're entirely grass-fed. Wow, Fuddruckers is going hog wild. – Namby Pamby Dec 28 2011 at 8:52
Are their potato fries out? I use to love those.... :( – Allie Dec 28 2011 at 16:19
I have had both at my local fuddruckers -I have them put all the fixings -cheese, fried mushrooms, avocado. (No bun of course). I haven't even asked about the fries. I am allergic to literally everything and didn't have a reaction to any of my meals there, so I feel safe recommending. – Senneth Dec 28 2011 at 17:23
What's a Fuddruckers? Seriously, never heard of it. But IMO if you've never had any of those proteins see if they'll give you a patty of each. I doubt they'll say no and will probably just charge you a few bucks more. The worst they can say is no :) Personally I like all three, Elk is really tasty, so you can't go wrong with any of the choices. – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Dec 28 2011 at 21:35
@NambyPamby - Wild Pig is very mild, not very gamey at all. Elk is a bit "heady" but still compares well to beef for overall flavor (it's a bit richer/deeper than beef). I find buffalo/bison to be particularly tinney for me. – Joshua Jun 14 at 19:31

I would say elk and buffalo.

Thanks Eric- so both right? ;) And choose that over just like a chicken breast? – Chuck Feerless Dec 28 2011 at 15:46

Sorry for the fake answer, but before you go, you absolutely must see Idiocracy.

We went there last week and had the elk burger with mushrooms, onions, peppers, and avocado. DELICIOUS! I did get some crazy looks when I told them no bun and no fries. :) (Especially for the kids elk burgers!) Then load up on lettuce, tomatoes, etc at the "fixin's bar".

I'm going to vote for the elk or buffalo.

Neither the elk or the wild boar is actually wild in the sense that it is game meat. These are both farmed animals. Wild boar (even farmed) is tastier than a regular pig, but is going to have a similar nutritional profile, especially when contrasted with elk or buffalo.

The elk or buffalo has likely (but not guaranteed) been raised on a huge farm, where it is effectively wild and eating the grasses they were meant to eat. They are likely also fed grains by the farmers as well.

I used to live near an elk farm, and it quickly became my favorite red meat. My only concern with getting an elk burger at a place like Fuddruckers is that it's almost certainly going to be overcooked -- it's greatly more lean than cow or buffalo. However, I'd still risk it -- I do love to eat elk. :-)

Elk, Boar, or both (if it were me... that's what I would do).

I haven't been to a Fuddruckers since I was a kid (they had one for awhile in Asheville NC). I remember LOVING the place.

Yes! Depending on the size of the patties, I might not actually want to eat all that, but that does sound pretty delectable. I'm thinking an 8oz elk patty sandwiched by two 3oz boar patties pressed somewhat thinner. Top with some greens, onions, and mustard. F*ck. I'm making this tonight. – greymouser Jun 14 at 19:38

Ours has ostrich, too. But it's almost never defrosted so I end up getting boar.
