I've been eating Paleo pretty consistently for about three months. I've lost nearly 25 pounds and feel great. I've adjusted to the change really well, without much in the way of cravings or temptations. My questions concerns what happened the day after Christmas. On the 20th we had our staff party at work and I stayed pretty clean, with the only non-Paleo being a tiny serving of Tiramisu. On the 23rd we had a party for our residents and I stuck to lemon chicken, ham and spinach/strawberry salad, with one piece of cheesecake. On Christmas Eve I made broiled chicken breast and turkey meatballs with no bread crumbs. I also had some salad made from Napa cabbage, grilled chicken, slivered almonds and Asian vinaigrette with sesame. Christmas day was baked ham, coleslaw and baked beans, followed by one piece of pecan pie. I know the beans and pie was non-Paleo but I figured my clean track record would leave room for a couple treats. Then Monday morning I woke with indigestion and a crampy bloated feeling. As the day progressed, the cramping became worse. For lunch, I had only a small serving of the chicken salad from Christmas Eve. Soon after I began to feel quite nauseated and light headed, and finally vomited. That relieved some of the discomfort, but it continued through the afternoon and evening. I became nauseated a couple more times that evening and then developed diarrhea. The nausea was gone the next morning but the diarrhea continued. Could this have all be caused but the beans and pie? Up to this point, I have had no bread or other baked goods since October. No chips, not cookies, no cereal. The only beans were in a bowl of chili early on. Does this sound like a natural reaction?
The vomiting and diarrhea could indicate that you got unlucky and suffered food poisoning from something you ate. Or, as November said, it could also be a flu bug.
If no one else got sick that ate all the same foods, then it could just be as April said and your body hated the splurge; the pie crust would be wheat I assume. Sounds a little strong for just a splurge although I had a nasty itch-all-over reaction, stuffy nose and foggy brain from one little shortbread cookie per day for 2 days.
If you ate something that the others didn't have I'd be a little suspicious of that item.
Yup, this is a good sign. It means your body loved being on Paleo, it's reminding you how crap-tastic it feels to eat non-Paleo foods again.
I've read that lots of people on here that when they cheat, the next day they do a water fast and they sleep a lot and they go extra hard with their workouts the next day. I've personally never done the water fast but that's because I haven't cheated yet hehe.
