I am travelling from Europe to Santa Clara in March, and staying for 5 days for a conference. Does anyone know any Paleo-friendly restaurants in the area? Gluten-free is a must as I have celiac disease.

I'm sure someone else will have excellent recommendations, but let me just add this: California has no end of terrific whole foods and most restaurants are quite adept at customizing. – November Jan 2 2012 at 23:25
Yelp is a good place to look for reviews ~ could tell you how helpful the restaurant is inclined to be. yelp.com/c/santa-clara-ca/restaurants – November Jan 2 2012 at 23:27
Also, there's a wonderful grocery store called Whole Foods, they have buffet foods that are wonderful. – November Jan 2 2012 at 23:27

There's a marvelous Whole Foods in nearby San Mateo (shopped there recently) where you can easily get a great choice of hot foods and salads. Paleo people and Vegans alike find plenty to choose from. You'll recognize the Vegans. Scowling, glowering, eating large quantities of "whole" grains and soy burgers, soy chicken, soy turkey, soy hot dogs. The Paleo people will likewise be recognizable. The names of the meat and fish they're eating? "Meat" and "fish."

You're going to be really close to San Jose, which is a major urban area with a lot of food options. So, try that if you're searching on Yelp.

The Counter is a local chain that does custom burgers, and one of the options is sticking it on top of a salad.

There's a Whole Foods in Campbell, (much closer than San Mateo) http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/campbell/

Also, Cupertino, http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/cupertino/

Those two cities are right next to Santa Clara.

There's a listing for one in San Jose, but I have no idea how close it might be.

There's lots of good Indian food around there, higher end restaurants are more likely to use pasture butter.
