So, how did all you PaleoHacks do over the holiday season?
Did you gain weight?
Did you lose weight?
Did you manage to maintain?
If so, how did you do it?
My personal goal was to simply maintain. Going into the holidays I was comfortably hovering around 200lbs. Two weeks before my vacation, I intentionally cut back on eating, upped my exercise, and dropped down to ~197.
During my time off, I continued to exercise, and, aside from a handful of indiscretions (1 XXL burrito, two days of drinking, three cookies eating, and 4 dark chocolate bars!!!) I stuck with my standard primalicious diet. This involved quite a bit of meat and vegetables, coffee with heavy cream, nuts/seeds, and a few pieces of fruit here and there.
I hopped on the scale today and saw that my weight was 199.8, so I feel good about having successfully balanced "holiday enjoyment" and "health". This is the first year that I have been able to do this easily and without struggle. At no point did I feel like I was "fighting" with cravings or resisting eating foods for the sake of "being good". I genuinely wasn't interested in eating junk other than a few bites for curiosity's sake.
I felt like I was more aware of how I was spending my time with my family (and even posted a little rant inspired by my smart phone wielding sibling) and wasn't distracted by food. That isn't to say that everything was roses and light, but it seemed to be a deeper, more honest experience, that wasn't obscured by a distended abdomen and a clouded brain.
Today did a 24 hr fast (from ~2pm Saturday to 2pm Sunday) to simply give my gut a break, but tomorrow it's back to the regular routine.
