I'm starting to track my general health better, and as part of that subjective markers would be important, ie. mood, tiredness, etc.
I'd like to update daily on each on a scale of 1-5, and also include what I've eaten in broad terms, how much I've slept, exercise, etc. The purpose would be to track medium and long-term health, as well as to prepare for the eventual re-introduction of non-paleo foods to determine which might cause problems.
Here's my current list, and I would appreciate any additions or edits to have a complete view of one's health. I don't want a 20-item laundry list, but it should cover the high-level markers of well-being. I'll update the list when necessary.
Level of patience, anxiety and stress?
That being I know exactly when I am not eating right because my level of patience drops, resulting in my stress levels rising (over the stupidest things) and anxiety (and worry) generally follow. It is unfortunately a loop-back system and so I have to find a way to break the cycle.
For me this ends up going to the park with my favourite motivational music and working out until I feel like a cross between Rocky Balboa and Paul of Tarsus.
I use the mirror and I don't mean the "mirror test" for leptin resistance.
I started looking specifically at my reflection every morning to do a health assessment. I noticed a few weeks after starting ancestral eating that the healthiness of my face had improved. I've been surprised to observe that, based on what I eat/do, it can be quite variable. My color can be more/less pale, the tone bright/dull and my face can be puffy/firm. My eyes can be bright/dull. My hair can be healthy/dry/etc.
I do the mirror check each morning when the light is bright although indirect.
I also measure my waist and hips once per month.
I've had a longer list but I've distilled it down to: energy, mental clarity, body temperature (subjective), bowel, skin-nails-hair, sweating-odor. I also track exercise and supplements. I used to track pain, hunger, and dry eyes but they are all gone now. The longer list I used to use ended up with too much time navel gazing and the data was more than I needed. When those three things cleared up I quit tracking and I wish I hadn't.
