Hi folks,

is there anybody out there, who can't tolerate beef tallow?

And if yes, what do you think is the underlying cause?

(Supposed other fats aren't a problem)

I heard of beef allergies due to a tick bite, or a cross reaction to milk protein. Although, those proteins should be destroyed during tallow preparation.

Any experiences would be a great help,

thanks!

Why would beef tallow (rendered beef fat) have milk proteins in it? Only milk or dairy products should have milk proteins (casein and whey). Am I missing something here? (I admit to sometimes being a Nerdlinger McStupid.)

Some peple have allergic (or other) reactions to beef, but if you can eat beef, I cannot for the life of me see why you wouldn't be able to tolerate tallow. Conversely, I would expect that a person who has a problem with beef to possibly also have a problem with tallow.

Milk and beef share some proteins (BSA and BGG), but those should be heat labile. Actually, I don't know if I have problems with beef and I thought it would be a good idea to start with tallow first, as it is heated quite a while. Now I seem to react.. but shouldn't the temperature have destroyed the protein... difficult – Thomy Jan 5 2012 at 19:57

Are you allergic to the corresponding animal as well? And did you survive the most recent test? :-) – Thomy Jan 7 2012 at 11:04
