Every time I take Fish Oil or even Cod Liver Oil, I start flaring up and breaking out on my shoulders and face. The Cod Liver Oil is good quality, Green Pasture, but I still break out just like fish oil. Does anyone know why this is happening? And what I can take instead?! I've been told GLA is what I should try taking instead of fish oils.

I think maybe it's because your acne needs to get worse before it starts to clear up..so take the oil pills for a while even of you break out, in the end it will be benifitial. |

This happened to me too! It took me a few weeks to release that the acne started when I started taking the cod liver oil. One explanation seems to be that the iodine content is displacing other halogens in your body (fluoride/bromide) and coming out through your skin. However, I think this only happens to people who have compromised detoxification pathways and so the skin is the last resort (otherwise you wouldn't react). Definitely interested if anyone finds out any more about this. In the meantime, I have resumed my Vit D3 supplement and continue to eat liver as my source of Vit A. I don't think this is causing any break outs for me so its really weird. I also do eat some sea food and sea salt so I must get some iodine.... |

I had the same problem. I used Carleson salmon oil and had less trouble. Also, try red krill oil. The dosage is smaller for the same nutrient value. |

I'm starting to not like fish oil myself. I think I messed myself up with it, I had acne among other more worrying symptoms and actually just threw my bottle away a few days ago. I don't know what it was, but I definitely feel better without it. Perhaps it was messing with my hormones and suppressing my immune system like I've read a few articles on lately. I eat pretty low PUFAs anyway, so I'm guessing the fish oil was largely unnecessary. I think I'll continue eating fish a couple of times a week. |

Hm, weird... Sometimes I get flares when I am clearing up but they stop after a week or two and healing continues. So far i've had nothing but good results eating lots of omega 3s. I get mine from constantly eating 660 mg omega 3 eggs. Occasionally i'll supplement a little. I eat high-fat and get all of my fat soluble vitamins just like taking CLO. I've had acne non stop since I was 10 and i'm almost clear again doing this! |
