Hello

Finally after 5 months, my period has returned! But now it's left me here lifeless on the couch with my labtop. I feel out of it almost as if i'm sick, but i'm not actually. I guess it doesn't help that I only slept 6 hours last night from cramps, but even with 6 hours sleep i'm not this drained. I've heard something about releasing toxins? I'm really curious. What do you think?

And if it helps today I had some macadamia nuts, scrambled eggs and cauliflower. with some blueberries afterwards, and then at lunch a bit of salmon with lemon, and a blueberry smoothie * coconut milk*

Thanks in advance

Do you have any idea why you've been amenorrheic? Are you breastfeeding? Do you have PCOS? Do you have extremely low bodyfat? The reason why you haven't had your period might affect how you're feeling now. – jj Jan 10 2012 at 3:53
PMS? My period stopped when I started with my new job shortly after goin paleo. Double stressors, I suppose. And half a year later, my period's just back too (rejoice!) but I'm getting a massive breakout, just as I would before going amenorrheic. – neelie Jan 10 2012 at 4:53
Wish I had knew what to tell you. If your body is craving fish or red meat or specific vegetables or yogurt (not sweets or gluteny things, tho!), go with those feelings- maybe you used up your supply of a nutrient? (fixed spelling in your tag) – JitzGrrl Jan 10 2012 at 4:55
Yes, from rapid weight loss and from being very stressed. – Perseverance Jan 10 2012 at 5:32
haha sorry about the spelling! * labtop keyboards aren't my best friend* :P That makes sence! Thankyou! *@ JitzGrrl – Perseverance Jan 10 2012 at 5:35

My period stopped when I went paleo 10 months ago, did yours stopping correlate with changing your diet as well?

Up your fat and starch intake! I went too low fat and low carb and period disappeared... – neelie Jan 10 2012 at 4:54
Yes it did actually, but that was also due to the fact that I hardly had an idea how to cook, and I underrate because my appetite went as my taste buds were adjusting from the taste roller coaster that goes on , on S.A.D – Perseverance Jan 10 2012 at 5:33
yep I did do that! – Perseverance Jan 10 2012 at 5:33

Mine stopped two months ago when my BMI dropped into what's described as the 'underweight' range. But otherwise, Paleo really evened out my PMS symptoms.

I'm hesitant to believe that detoxing is relevant in regards to menstruation but I could be wrong. I did occasionally suffer from low energy and moods, but it always passed.

Exactly what happened to me. I was almost 3 kg underweight :/, but i'm back to a healthy weight now. – Perseverance Jan 10 2012 at 5:37

Cramps - could be fatty acid deficiency - too much omega 6 from fatty meat, poultry and nuts, too little omega 3. Try adding magnesium - good for cramps

True, I was just thinking of how I eat too many nuts, but they're usually macadamias. I take omega three fish oil 1-3 times a day. I have (what used to be severe but now almost in a normal person range :P ) stuttering so my therapist suggested I take omega three every day, and I swear it's helped! – Perseverance Jan 10 2012 at 5:43

Zinc picolinate 50 mg and some Vitamin E may help. Second the magnesium.

You may also want to check your iron level--you may need more red meat.

Also, get your Vitamin D level checked. It's a hormone pre-cursor.
