I'm a paleo newb and am hoping someone can help me answer my question.
I've been eating paleo for two weeks and am really enjoying it! I'm an overweight 26yo female and have lost just over 9 pounds within this short amount of time. I am feeling fine so I imagine everything is okay but my question is this: Should I be worried about this rapid rate of weight loss? And is it possible that I'm losing muscle mass as well?
(side note: I've also been working out 2-3 times/week...step aerboics with some ab work)
My guess is that everything is fine but I'm not sure and would love some insight if anyone has any.
Thanks so much!
Since you're so new and have probably changed how you eat quite a bit, I'd guess some of your weight loss was a change in water retention and didn't involve losing fat or lean mass.
Congrats on the rest, you're obviously off to a great start. In general, if you feel great and have a good level of energy you're doing well. If there was a problem, you'd feel "off" or would be insatiably hungry, etc.
Weight loss frequently comes in starts and stops so you may have a quiet time too; it's all good.
Like stated above that is probably mostly water weight. I lost 22 lbs in 3 weeks when i started then it dropped to about 2 a week for the next few months. I am on month 6 and it ranges anywhere from gaining a lb or 2 to losing 5 in week. Point is get off the scale and see how your close are fitting.
Also I noticed your exercise routine. All movement is good but make sure you lift some heavy things atleast once if not twice a week. Its good for the bones and the joints. This can be body weight or weight lifting things.
Have fun on your journey!!
Yes, it's water weight from lower cabs. I can lose 8 lbs in a day shedding the water weight going from high carb to zero to low carb. It slows down after that depending on how aggressive you are being on your diet.
