I know a lot of people would typically be using eggs, and the rest are probably not eating breakfast until lunchtime, but what is your most surefire morning hunger suppressant if for example you weren't going to be able to eat again until evening? Is there a new 'conventional' breakfast or does ditching the cereal and toast mean everything is fair game?

i dont eat breakfast that often – Anthony Pierre Jan 13 2012 at 16:16
Usually just coffee. Sometimes I know I will be having lunch later than usual so I prepare by eating eggs & boudin noir or basmati rice with sardines. – netmork Jan 13 2012 at 16:37

Have you got anything without spam? Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it. – Dave S. Jan 13 2012 at 17:24

Food is food. Why would there ever be special breakfast foods? It's a gimmick. – Marnee Jan 13 2012 at 20:43

3 eggs, 3-4 strips of bacon, half of an avocado.

This is the usual stand by for me if I am making breakfast.

If by chance I am trying intermittent fasting, and not eating until noon, then it is some black coffee with cinnamon in it.

Sweet potatoes and fried eggs, over easy.

I have fat for breakfast--excess body fat that I've released and am now burning. I skip the hassle of fixing/eating food as part of my morning routine.

I break my fast somewhere between 10 am and the next morning in a random and natural pattern of intermittent fasting. I never schedule food; if I'm hungry I eat but if I'm busy or not hungry I don't.

It's common for me to have bone broth stew or other meat leftovers if I don't start the day with yogurt and fruit. Yesterday I had bacon and eggs at mid-day and didn't eat again. I'm a little hungry this morning but I see no need to do anything about it.

My favorite part of this lifestyle is the reduced importance food now carries.

EDIT: Re-reading your question, I'm not sure my answer was a direct hit so I'll add that, if I believe it's important to eat in the morning for some reason I go for one of my 2 favorites: home-made yogurt with fruit or a slow-fried chunk of fatty beef. With the yogurt I'll feel empty again in a few hours, not that that's a problem, but with the beef I'm easily good 'til the next day.

today i had my typical 3 egg omlet but i was un-typically hungry after just 3 hours. So for me it doesnt work evey time but at times i can go 8-10 hours befor hunger sets in.

Most effective for me has to be a pound of baked salmon fillet, maybe a plantain or some veg on the side. A full cooked breakfast with sausage, eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms (what the hell, black pudding as well) is pretty good, but that salmon leaves me feeling comfortably full all day, more so than steak I think.

I added my own answer, yes. I thought it would be more appropriate than answering the question before I asked it. I also thought it might be helpful to other people. – AndyM Jan 13 2012 at 18:28

I always have a homemade americano with raw honey (I know getting hot defeats the purpose:), coconut oil, and a dash of organic half and half. I am tempted to call this a meal since it has fat in it and I am not hungry for many hours after this. I really do think it would be better to have a real breakfast, but I can't stomach it. I have read that not being hungry in the morning is a sign of health issues -so maybe once I fix all my health issues -then I can chow down on some eggs and meat!

I could never stomach food in the morning either. When I first started eating breakfast I had to force it down. Now I won't say I wake up hungry, but I do enjoy the breakfast. It took a while to get there. – Kelly Jan 13 2012 at 17:02
If it's true that lack of morning appetite signals health issues I am a very unhealthy person. :- Nah, I just have excellent stores of energy in the form of excess body fat. I CAN eat in the morning, I just don't want to. – Nance Jan 13 2012 at 18:28

I am still dealing with super bad digestive troubles, the thought of having so much food in my gut all morning is enough to ruin my day, its bad enough after I eat lunch and dinner. – Senneth Jan 13 2012 at 19:32

Try a smoothie for breakfest.

I was eating 3 eggs and 1/3 lb grass fed ground beef cooked in 2 t coconut oil pretty much every morning. That kept me completely full until dinner.

Since I started a 30 day autoimmune challenge, I'm not eating eggs so this morning I had leftover pot roast. For some reason this doesn't keep me as full as with the eggs. Probalby due to less fat overall.

4 eggs and butter. That will hold me for lunch or dinner. Currently doing 4 eggs and one potato.

The best for me for a New York breakfast (and not eating again until the late afternoon or evening) is eggs, lox or ground beef or lamb, and sauerkraut. If I have them, I add olives or sun-dried tomatoes or peppers to the eggs.

If I don't have time to cook, then it's lox and full fat greek yogurt, and maybe a handful of nuts.

Another think to note: I find I am much more full with breakfast if I drink about a quart of water. Staying hydrated for me has been crucial to cutting back on the amount and frequency of my eating.

I had a fairly large breakfast this morning.

1 raw zucchini, chopped into cubes. On top of that, 4oz leftovers of the "well fed" cookbook chocolate chili. On top of that, 1 sunny-side up egg.

In addition to that, I also blended 1/2 cup each of cranberries and blueberries with some sea salt until they were like a raw chutney. Ate that with a spoon while my chili simmered and my egg cooked.

A couple of hours later (I'm working from home today), my wife made a plate of mixed greens, 2oz of smoked salmon, about a tablespoon of cream cheese, and a lemon wedge for me... with 12 raw almonds (around 1/2oz) as my Vit E has been on the lower side lately.

All of this with one cup of Yerba Mate and one cup of coffee, and about 1.5 quarts of water to drink.

Calorically, it isn't a major amount - but the variety is good.

Lamb steak (fatty leg cut with a marrow bone, gotta eat the marrow), a fistful of parsley, 1 dose of cod liver oil, and a cup of coffee with some cream. Good to go all the way to dinner, no problem.

Coconut milk and berry smoothie or bacon and eggs. With a cup of coffee. Sometimes just the coffee, with milk and maybe some coconut oil.

Depending on what I have on the schedule, I eat breakfast at noon or at around 7 or 8. I never tire of eggs. I fry or scramble them in butter, tallow or coconut oil. A sweet potato, fried taro, rice or potatoes to go with it. Maybe some leftover veggies. Coffee with heavy cream.
