Hi everyone. I am interested in clearing the old system out(without fasting as I am against the practice) and think that including lemon juice would be a good idea. what advisements would the paleo crowd have? Does it destroy health gut bacteria, does it cause ulcers, and just how would you take it(I've been taking it watered down with a straw but find that it still burns the tongue and roof of the mouth a tad). How have you fared with lemon juice in the past?

Just out of interest why are you against the practice of fasting? – HuntingBears Aug 28 at 11:21

Take a lemon, cut it in half, squeeze that sucker into a glass of ice water. Drink. Enjoy. There are no negative health effects of drinking lemon-water.

Eating whole lemons or pure lemon juice will not do anything different for you. The body is constantly detoxing all on its own. Once toxins/grains/etc are removed from diet, it will take care of the rest.

Drinking lemon juice/vinegar water still makes me "feel" like I'm detoxing but you're right on the money. The body takes care of itself. – Dan Jan 14 2012 at 1:55
Would 1 cup per day be too much??? How about tooth decay? How does one circumvent this if at all? – MrMagicman Jan 14 2012 at 3:48

I agree with Bill. I happen to like carbonating spring water with my Soda Stream because I like the bubbles, but I squeeze a wedge of lemon or lime into each glass.

If you're going to be imbibing a lot of "lemonade" it's good you're using a straw because it can become erosive to your tooth enamel if you're drinking it all the time.

If you aren't fasting, what else will you be eating/drinking? Probably for the same reason that you're looking at lemon juice I drink water kefir every day and I can attest that it DOES clean out the gut. :-))

I decided to reinclude cabbage and more herbs as well as some shredded coconut for the fibre. I've come to believe that Low to no carb diets still require fibre otherwise one becomes angry and tense etc.(possibly a symptom of lack of 'exchange' in the digestive tract. – MrMagicman Jan 14 2012 at 3:50
Nance, I've decided to try this water kefir of which you rave. I know you've given instructions on PH before - can you post the link for me here? – Renee Jan 14 2012 at 14:40
Sure, have fun: ancestralcrone.blogspot.com/2011/12/… and here's a great video: youtube.com/watch?v=p-t9C7PoBRc – Nance Jan 14 2012 at 16:09

I like to drink a little morning cleanser of lemon juice, and this recipe is supposed to take the place of coffee as a stimulating drink (and I think it really works well actually),

It's:

2oz. organic apple juice, Juice of 1/2 lemon hot water stevia or honey or whatever floats your boat (if you want - not needed though).

The apple juice is optional but I think it makes it taste better.

I have trouble with the acidity in lemon too, but I've found this drink to be quite digestable and I think having it in the morning really makes the difference. If I drink something like lemonade it is really hard on my stomach. I also think that you have to watch the amount of lemon you ingest if it bothers you, because a little really does go a long way.

Apple is used in detoxes to soften/flush kidney stones, so really benificial along with the lemon, and sounds delicious – HippiPaleo Jan 14 2012 at 13:46

I have been starting the say with half a lemon squeezed into a (probably about 20 oz) glass of water...I have seen a huge increase in my energy level since I started this practice...It tasted rather strong when I first started, but now I crave it during the day as well...The tartness is
