My eyes are happy, anyone else?
F.lux is softening the brightness, contrast and colors on my computer monitors as the sun sets. Its got to be the most paleo-computer thing ever invented.
Why didn't I think of this

Hmm. I've been using f.lux for a while now. Conceptually it makes lots of sense to me, but I don't know if I'm as enthusiastic as you are. Glad to have it, but I haven't exactly kidded myself that it makes my late night computer use "paleo" in any sense of the word! |

I have f.lux on my PCs (work and home), a break reminder of some sort (forget the name- it pops up every so often to tell me to look around, take a break, stretch) on my work computer, and a f.lux-ish thing on my Android phone called NeyetLight (available in the market). For bonus dork points, I use the 'dawn song' of the American Robin as my morning alarm (noted here because my phone is my alarm), and the chirp of a Downy Woodpecker as my text message alert. Both are species native to my area- Michigan. I'm thinking of using a wood frog or bullfrog's alarm call for calendar reminders (suggestions welcome, tho). Maybe not precisely paleo, but easier on my ears than most other ringtones out there. :) |

I use RedShift which does the same thing but I can run it off the command-line. I am not entirely sure how this benefits me if I work in an office that has the same level of light all day. But it does give PaleoHacks have a nice peachy glow and it reminds me that it is time to leave the office. If anyone is interested in the latitude and longitude for London, UK.

Been using it for quite some time now. The only issue I have with it is that there's no separate settings for mornings, since I usually getup before the sun, so I have to click "Disable for an Hour" a couple of times. |

I've been using it for a while. It's really handy, except for when I'm editing photos after sundown. Totally screws up the white balance and color of my photos... so I keep hitting "disable for an hour". |

I love it, handy if you have to read a lot on the screen. Been using it over half a year now. I sneaked it on my parents' PCs as well, they didn't notice it, just said "did you change something? my eyes feel better" |

I would be thrilled out of my mind to have f.lux or RedShift available for my iPad and android phone. |

I like it and have been using it for probably 9 months. It only takes a moment for my eyes to adjust when it comes on in the evening or shuts off in the morning. I think it is definitely more comfortable for my eyes. I don't know that it helps me sleep better as I have never had problems sleeping. |

My Mac doesn't like it. After I installed f.lux I started having problems awaking my computer from sleep mode. It wouldn't wake up at all and I kept having to do a hard restart. I only downloaded it to try it out and see what all the fuss was about. My solution is to limit overall computer usage and take adequate breaks when I have to be on for any length of time. |

I have it and really like it. I sometimes used to wear sunglasses in the past just before bed time to really dim down the screen. I hate bright lights which is a bane living in Japan, they really love brights - blinding lights. Big domed neon lights in living areas, convenience stores are insanely bright at night. This country is the most sleep deprived place imaginable and the bright lights are frequently being brought up by some as a contributing factor: I have seen several news stories about too much light disrupting sleep. My students proudly claim that they get 2-3 hours sleep a night. Fools, and they wont listen to my advice. link text As for F-lux, works fine for me on PC - with a LG Super LED monitor, it has very sharp bright whites, so F-lux is gold. To those who tried it and hated it, what kind of monitor were you using it with? I think that could be a factor. |

While I like f.lux's function, it is a little unsettling to see the large amount of data it sends to/from the internet when running. Also, is is somewhat system memory intensive, at least on the previous generation of computers. Finally, if you are booting up later on in the evening f.lux doesn't kick in until you log in - prior to that point one tends to get zapped with Windows 7 intense blue light. I plan to look into RedShift. |

I really do love it. occasionally I'll restart my computer and forget to launch it, then in the evening I'll wonder what's wrong with my computer. |

I have f.lux on my mac and on my work pc (windows). The only problems I see is that on the Mac version, it only affects my main monitor and not my secondary. On the Windows app it works for both displays. |

Every evening I... 1) ...make my laptop screen very dark. I minimize brightness, contrast and gamma from the graphics settings. 2) ...wear my "high contrast blue blocker" glasses that I ordered from eBay. |

Absolutely hated it. I didn't really find any benefit in it and I kept getting annoyed when it would start to dim my screen at 5:30 in the afternoon. Uninstalled with no regrets :) |
