I've had a look to see if this question has been asked before and haven't seen it so apologies if I've missed it!

For those of you who are dark chocolate fans - How much of it do you eat per day?

At the moment, I'm eating about 4 squares of the Lindt 85% dark chocolate at approx 10.30am with a cup of tea each morning.

I'm now wondering if this is considered 'too much' to eat per day? How much is considered a healthy amount? Or should we even eat it every day?

I would love to know your thoughts!

Thanks all :)

Note that a lot of chocolate coming from Ivory Coast (which is almost 40% of world production) is made with slave labor. I'm not talking about "slave labor," I'm talking real slaves who work for bare essential upkeep and are forced to work. Lindt sources their chocolate from Ghana which supposedly doesn't use slave labor. – Wisper Jan 17 2012 at 13:01

I try to keep it to one or two squares per day - I don't always succeed! – Dave S. Jan 17 2012 at 13:46

I absolutely adore dark chocolate! I usually have one square of Lindt 85% dark chocolate every day, sometimes every second day. If I feel like it I will deter from the usual and get 70% dark chocolate.

There's lots of crap in a Hershey bar: Ingredients: SUGAR, CHOCOLATE, COCOA BUTTER, COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, MILK FAT, LACTOSE, SOY LECITHIN, PGPR, VANILLIN, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, AND MILK Better stick to some high-quality dark chocolate. – Renee Jan 17 2012 at 15:13

I try not to eat chocolate bars. The cocoa is often dutch processed, stripping it of antioxidants, and there's a good amount of sugar even in the darkest varieties. Rather, I aim to consume cocoa nibs, which is the most natural source you can find. Unfortunately, they have a funny taste and are expensive so are somewhat harder to consume in quantity. You can find them on Amazon for a decent price. I add them to coconut ice cream, where they taste like chocolate chips. I also eat them in smoothies and with berries.

I used to work in dark chocolate production, and one of the chocolatiers would just suck on cocoa nibs all day- I couldn't do it, they were so so bitter!!! Mixed in with nuts and shredded coconut however...very good! – JeJ Jan 17 2012 at 17:05

I blend dates, coconut oil, cocoa powder and a little vanilla essence roll in to teaspoon sized balls and refrigerate, Chocolate truffles to rival any shop bought ones. I eat a couple each day.

I eat about 1-2 squares a day, depending on how I feel about going about my day. Usually I stick with the 70% dark but I have just tried the 85% dark and, quite frankly I like the 85% better. Nonetheless, I believe we will be totally functional with 1-2bars a day, as opposed to anyone else who consumes more I would say be careful. After all, a chocolate a day keeps the doctor away! http://www.truthdig.com/eartotheground/item/a_piece_of_chocolate_a_day_may_keep_the_doctor_away_20120717/

I eat a couple of squares of 85% chocolate 2-3 times a week...sometimes more though, especially around my period.

Probably 1 square of 85%-90% 2-3 times a week. Lindt 90% is great but would be nice to find some other brands

I'm one of the few ones here I see that have given on regular chocolate bars because let's face it, they always have some sugar or artificial sweetener on it. A little bit once in a while may be OK but eating it every day... I hardly doubt it. And the problem here is that when you want chocolate that bad you cannot help it but eat it on a regular basis. I found myself that I needed to treat it almost like and addiction drug and try to keep far from it... sad but true.

So now, when I want to have some pleasant dessert I mix a teaspoon of pure organic cocoa powder into a yoghurt with some berries and I'm ready to go, it's really healthy with low sugar but very nutrient dense. I could add it just into my regular coffee also. The taste is pretty sour but I've come to enjoy it over the time and now every time I need less and less the sweet stuff. Put a little bit of Aroy-D coconut milk on it and you could get addicted hehe.

i wouldnt buy the chocolate you can get in stores as the beans are roasted and it will contain sugar. You can make your own raw chocolate quite easily though buy combining cacao powder, raw honey, and either cacao butter or coconut oil, and then placing into molds and into the fridge. The consistency wont hold up as well, but theyll sure be a lot better for you

I was hoping to see people eating at least 100 g per day, like myself! ;)

i eat a square of 100% bakers chocolate ($3.50 plus taw at the real canadian superstore) mixed with a half tbsp of honey, half a stevia scoop, a couple drops agave nectar, and a half tbsp of coconut oil (and the optional a half tsp of peanut oil as well). it is so good but i mix the amount with my chocolate as a feel fit since all that in moderation is supposed to be either good for you or not bad for you.

I've been eating dark chocolate (lindt's 85% or Green & Black's 85% mostly) for years 1 bar will last 3 or 4 days. Today is the day I'm giving it up as a test to see if I can. I find that I'm taking it like medicine instead of pleasure. It's like I think I must have chocolate! I don't like that. I'm answering this post to see my resolve in print. I don't think the chocolate per se is bad for me, but the obsession is uncomfortable.

I have about 8~16g of cocoa powder daily. Usually dissolved in hot water and drunk - sometimes with a couple of eggs and coconut oil mixed in. Or I mix it with 100% coconut cream + tiny bit of stevia, leave it in the fridge and it turns into chocolate mousse drool
