Lamb on a spit! We do this every Easter in Greece, it's a tradition. Its belly is stuffed with mint! It's amazing! Underneath the lamb you will see in the picture the offal of the lamb (lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, heart, pancreas), sliced and tangled together with the intestines, and roasted too (called kokoretsi). We keep the tripe for a soup (called patsas)! My God, what a (super-healthy) feast!

Oh.. I can remember playing in my grams yard and she came over and handed me a bowl of berries to hold in my lap, they were from her garden. That first little sun warmed strawberry with it's teeny stem was the best thing in the entire world. As were the 57 that followed. Then it was blackberries, raspberries throughout the summer. Sigh...

To this day nothing in the food world makes me happier than just a big pile of berries, especially in the middle of a hot day from the farmers market. I swear I can smell their summer deliciousness a mile away.

I am with you!! My favorite thing to do in summertime is go berry picking... – legup Jan 21 2012 at 4:32
I was very lucky and grew up with a huge fat garden at home, and extended family had as well. So you went outside to graze for snacks. Just wipe the dirt off and eat. Gram had tons of fruit trees and berries going, she canned, so clambering up to eat cherries with the birds and read a book? The.Best. – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Jan 21 2012 at 15:21

I just made a clam chowder with tripe in place of potatoes.Yum! Of course, it's been about a year since I ate real clam chowder, so my judgement might be skewed. No, I think it was the best ever.

I've been wanting to make a paleo clam chowder forever. Especially since it's cold outside. DO share. – Caveman formally known as Dan Jan 21 2012 at 5:14
Well, its not thick and creamy like New England chowder, there no substitute for starch, it's just runny and lumpy without it. But basically, I just used about 3 cups of my pre-cooked frozen tripe, a can of snow's diced clam, a bottle of snow's clam juice, maybe a cup of diced onion, some parsley flakes, some pepper, that's about it. Drain the meat can into the frying pan but withhold the crab meat itself. Everything gets boiled boiled in the frying pan about 5 minutes, then toss in the meat just to warm it up. I also hold the onions late, since I like like them kinda raw. – Huey Jan 21 2012 at 19:03

A grass fed ribeye cooked over a fire with fresh, local organic vegetables and berries and cream for dessert!

First time I actually slow cooked my own ribs...It may of not been the "best" I ever made, but they were the taste that opened up the possibilities for me. Low and slow cooking...making your own rub....making your own sauces...its a world that can grab hold of you. So yeah, after that first batch of ribs I was hooked. "

Wild boar from the greek forests, killed by some hunters that i know. Just trying a few fatty cuts made me euphoric.

Such a tough question for a food addict like myself.

It's also tough because the chapter of "living to eat" is pretty much over in my life, and has been brushed away to distant memory. I'm much more of a "food = fuel" guy now and if the food is delicious, it's just a major bonus.

Best Thing I ever ate - Pre-Paleo: When I was a kid, my grandmother would make dinners of fried chicken, pea-salad (fresh spring peas, onions, grated cucumber and mayo), and pinto beans with rice. I would turn down any meal from any chef or any restaurant for her fried chicken dinners.

Best Things I eat currently: Today, I would have to say that slow-cooked meat with broth is one of the top contenders of "my favorite food", particularly oxtails cooked for a day with some acidity (about 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar), tons of dry rosemary, and about 6 cloves of garlic (all to about 2lbs of oxtails and enough water to cover).

Best thing I've ever eaten post-paleo: I made a pesto with mint instead of basil, walnut oil instead of olive oil, and a combination of walnuts and macadamias... all seasoned with a curry spices and kosher sea salt. This I smeared over a leg of lamb and roasted. It was absolutely fantastic and probably one of my most popular recipes... even among non-Paleo family members.

Just made a batch of Coconut Chips from Melissa Joulwan's Well Fed ... if I could snack on those all day long, I would, damn the torpedoes!

Mine changes often. Usually it's the most recent grass-fed beef that I ate.
