I was an avid coffee drinker in the past, however I have stopped many times as it seems to give me a great boost in productivity in the short term but cause some sleep issues and more dependency long term. I haven't drank coffee in two months but some how feel that I may want to reintroduce it to be more productive again. I started drinking decaf and noticed that it doesn't give me the little caffeine boost that regular coffee does but generally warms me up enough to get me started. I'm not sure if drinking a slight amount of organic decaf is worth the effort or will this be gate way drink to some stronger substances. I somehow feel that I'm missing out on something culturally by not drinking it. Is it worth it?
Decaf is made from Robusto beans because they have a stronger flavor that can survive the process, these have more phytoestrogens than Arabica beans.
Decaffeination processes use chemical solvents to remove the caffeine, the good ones use water. Unless they state how they were decaffeinated, you're risking a product that may have residues.

All sorts of decaf have remnants of caffeine in each 6-8 ounce cup...usually around 20 to 30 mg of caffeine. Unless you're super sensitive to caffeine (which it doesn't sound like since you say you don't get the "boost") but the likelihood of becoming addicted from dosing decaffeinated coffee is definitely dose-dependent.
Culturally, you're okay. It's your choice whether or not you want a hot beverage in the morning. I don't think you should raise cortisol levels (half-joking) worrying about whether you're culturally correct or not. If you enjoy it, the taste n' all...go for it! Just listen to your body, like you have been doing, since you've identified long term dependency. I think being positive goes far beyond caffeine consumption.
Summary: If it warms you up and it gets you started and makes you feel well without the caffeine addiction. Awesome, go for it.
Is it worth it? Sure. Sounds fine.

Gateway? Decaffeinated doesn't mean 0 mg of caffeine. It means very small amounts. Drinking 5-6, 6-8 ounce cups will equal a caffeine dose. Dose dependent. Hope this helps!
i've been 'decaf'ed' for a few months now and every time i have a cup of regular coffee i feel myself becoming more anxious and sleeping poorly that night. i love the TASTE of coffee, and never drank it for the caffeine, so for me going for the decaf is a great compromise!
As long as you're getting water-process decaf and you like the drink, I see no problem with it. As long as you're not looking for the caffiene, there's a whole range of hot beverages you can start your day with: decaf teas, herbal teas, bone broth, Choffy, Turmeric tea ...if you're not tied to the caffiene hit, there's many creative and delicious options.
If you're just looking for a morning stimulating warm drink try this: 2oz apple juice, juice of half a lemon in hot water. You can add a little stevia or whatever if you like. It's nicely effective at increasing alertness much like coffee. It's not exactly like coffee of course, but I bet it would rival your decaf.
If you just like the taste and psychological effects of decaf try Dandy Blend. Tastes exactly like coffee to me but without all the acid or other side effects.
