Skin tingling, disorientation, anxiety, peeing frequently, getting cold easily, shortness of breath, dilerium, lack of cognition, twitching, random sharp pains: these are the list of symptoms I had today after one week of paleo. I had weaker symptoms yesterday, but today's were so severe that I decided to have a bowl of wheat bran. I felt so much better in just 45 minutes. The funny thing is that I did not have any cravings for wheat, but I knew what I was suffering from was due to the extreme change in diet. I am a body builder and switched from my shredding phase (only complex carbs in the AM/250 grams protein throughout the day) to paleo last week as a challenge and it is clear that my body is simply not ready for this. I have suffered from ketosis before but one week of no wheat was something I will never try again unless I ease into it.

You could have just consumed a glass of water with dextrose powder in it (or eaten a potato or some rice), and if that made you feel better (it would have) you could have concluded that what your body was lacking was simply glucose, which , as a bodybuilder, it needs in order for you to progress. You certainly were not suffering from a lack of wheat. Eating paleo is not zero carbing it while attempting anaerobic excercise , its not eating wheat/grains/gluten/legumes/hydrogenated crapola, etc. |
