I wanna go on holiday! The problem is, my diet is strict, and I hate slacking. So, please tell me every destination you know that has easy access to grass-fed beef and organic vegetables! While I don't mind going on holiday in a city, I'd rather be in nature.

Maybe we could make a collaborative map?

I'm from Belgium, and here, Leuven is a great city if you're paleo : there's an organic supermarket and an awesome grassfed butcher.

In general, I prefer picnics in well planted city/state/national parks (if weather permits) with grilled meat/vegetables and fresh fruit. If I can't be outdoors, it's probably not a vacation. – Nance Jan 26 2012 at 19:38

Bruno -That could be your contribution to Paleo -starting and promoting a website or interactive map for paleo friendly travel and food. (Or even a thread just for that on paleohacks like "paleo in your city?"). I could pick out a few places in my city that are safe to eat at. I bet everyone could. I don't travel so there is no motivation for me doing this myself. But I would love to help out people that came to my city. – Senneth Jan 26 2012 at 20:30

I second Senneth's idea. I travel often, and probably will for the rest of my life. So a map like that would be helpful, or at least a source of information with such things. – Caleb the Hobbit Jan 26 2012 at 20:33

Hi Senneth, Valeb and Bruno, I have the same problem and took advantage of a recent leave to build such a platform. You can have a look at healthylivingtribes.com It's a collaborative directory of local Paleo resources, worldwide, and it needs the input from the community! The integration with Google Maps is pretty solid, so you can add and see resources on maps, etc. Also, if you share a resource or review one before end of January, you enter a draw to win Nora Gedgaudas' book ;-) It's a side project for me, but the maintenance doesn't cost anything, so it's up for the long-term. – Julien Jan 27 2012 at 5:08

Julien, that's great! I could make an iPhone app of such a thing too. It's definitely something I wanna work on, since I wanna travel, but my diet kinda keeps me at home. – Bruno Jan 27 2012 at 8:12

New Zealand is the first thing that comes to mind for me when I think of pastured meat.

I don't know for sure on the grassfed meat thing, but as far as organic produce goes, Cuba has become world renowned for it by necessity because of the trade embargo.

Hit any country that can't afford pesticides or animal feed and you're probably good (although other environmental toxins could be an issue in cash strapped countries because of things like smelting down electronics for recycling).

I think pesticides are pretty cheap- I live in a very poor country, but nobody skimps on the chemicals/pesticides. – Celine Apr 26 at 14:28
Ah, good to know. – Happy Now Apr 26 at 21:11

If you got the cash (and the plane ticket), there's MovNat's workshop in Thailand -- paleo food and physical fitness: http://movnat.com/train-with-us/thailand-7-day-workshops-overview/

Outside magazine has an 8 page review if you want more info: http://www.outsideonline.com/fitness/strength-and-power-training/The-Workout-that-Time-Forgot.html

Seeing retreats that don't brag about their "meat free" menu makes me want to cry with joy. Most retreats I've gone on I've had sneak jerky to keep from keeling over from hunger, and eating jerky alone outside in the middle of the night because I was too hungry to sleep when there are bears and cougers randomly wandering through the camp is pretty exciting in a not fun way. – Happy Now Jan 27 2012 at 11:10

Argentina!

They love their beef and have amazing wines.

If you want to do outdoor adventures, there are many options going South of Buenos Aires. I spent some time hiking and hanging out in Puerto Madryn and touring the Valdes Peninsula and really had a great time. (This was after Tango school and hanging out with some polo players riding some really nice ponies. Believe me there is LOTS to do in all parts of Argentina.)

That's where I would go... – Joshua Jan 27 2012 at 14:12

Boulder, Colorado! Grass-fed beef. Hiking. Rafting. Skiing. Fishing and camping.

Being based in Sydney, I'm very partial to Bali. On the North-East coast, you can eat only wild fish caught the morning, and fresh veggies, pretty much anywhere.

Inside the island, you have organic farmstays such as this one http://healthylivingtribes.com/paleo-primal-resource/organic-farm-bali at a very affordable price (but I don't know where you're traveling from!).

How about a fat-bike-rafting trip to the Alaskan arctic?

Head for the WA coast. Buy a seafood and shellfish license, rent a cabin with a stove, wait for low tide, and dig in.

I second that, nothing better than sitting on the beach next to a fire eating oysters, crab, or shrimp cooked in sea water. Coastal British Columbia is pretty awesome for that too. – Happy Now Apr 26 at 21:15

Uhh... pretty much any major city in the US, Canada, Australia, and Western Europe? If you're willing to find a store with those food items and then prepare the food yourself, you can go pretty much anywhere.

Not really no. For example, I went to France last year, couldn't find anything organic, no coconut oil, not even nitrite-free beef. – Bruno Jan 27 2012 at 8:08
You must not have been in a large major city? You could certainly find those items in Paris for example, but you may have to seek out specific shops. – Chris Jan 27 2012 at 15:06

I'd really like to go to Tuvalu, an island in the Pacific and looks like paradise itself. It's mostly seafood there.
