What are your favorite Ray Peat articles and books? And/or what have you learned or applied to diet from reading Ray Peat?

I went on a Ray Peat binge last august and have since read his books, his newsletters (the ones after I signed up) and listened to many many hours of podcasts (if not all of em). I have filtered his work to pick out his recommendations for my particular health issues. (and had a lengthy consult with him -which was so confusing). I am still a bit lost in the woods. I follow Danny Roddy's blog to help me make sense of it.

So far I do the diet as he recommends, except the liquid milk (but do add some heavy cream in my coffee) as well as: gelatin, aspirin, glandular thyroid, pregnenolone, progesterone (I think its his own making -I get it from Lita Lee). I have recently went back and listened for dosing on Vitamin A and Vitamin K2. So I might start that in a few weeks.

Among my many digestive symptoms I have had for YEARS, I no longer have any inflammation (I used to not even be able to be hugged) and no constipation.

However some of my SIBO issues (bloating, burping, etc) are still in full force. I am hoping as my low -thyroid gets into gear, this will diminish. Naturally I eat the raw carrot (and cooked bamboo shoots), and have been since August, but it hasn't effected it so far. I think Ray was surprised to hear this.

I have also found out that too much progesterone gives me massive migraines. (Even though I have saliva tested low for this).

I like a lot of the stuff that Ray Peat has to say, but I take it with a grain of salt (sea salt, white) and keep trying to learn and understand better. I am not a total Ray Peat junkie as I sound -I am very up to date as to the rest of the nutritional world and wouldn't hesitate to change if something else caught my eye.

is your pregnenolone and progesterone prescribed ones? or health store ones? – Hanne Jan 27 2012 at 20:55
They are not prescribed. I tried that route a few years back and the progesterone cream was made with soy lotion!! I originally got them from Lita Lee (a friend/fellow biochemist of Ray Peat). But I didn't dig on the enzyme approach she took, so I just buy them and use them on my own. – Senneth Jan 27 2012 at 21:07
Is there a link to his diet? I did not see it on his website. Maybe I missed it though... – Eric Jan 27 2012 at 22:42
senneth- have you ever checked your hormone levels in blood? what do you base the dosage on? glandular thyroid, pregnenolone, progesterone all that.. also, have you checked your testosterone level? – Hanne Jan 27 2012 at 23:01
I also have digestive problems. I'm on RP diet too. I'm dissapointed to hear that your digestive issues haven't gone away. I was hoping it to improve if I'm on the diet long enough. – Hanne Jan 27 2012 at 23:03

Don't forget the excellent podcasts from EastWestHealing.

I've learned not to fear the fructose, that having warmth in my extremities is a damn good sign, and that things I previously considered problematic like milk and sugar (I thought they triggered my acne for a long time) really aren't when used in proper context and in a nutrient rich diet with minimal PUFA.

Oh, and I've learned that once again having the libido of my younger self is very, very fun.

Also on KMUD "Friday Night Talks" , the third friday of everymonth. It s about a 2 hour long show hosted by some herbal medicine doctors. Januarys show wasn't recorded, but all the archive ones are great! – Senneth Jan 27 2012 at 19:36
Here the link to the KMUD Archive.. kmud.org/… – Senneth Jan 27 2012 at 20:53
Listen to eastwesthealing.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/… : at 53:30 the caller says "I'm just gonna hang up and listen to you guys... And I'm contemplating eating a meal and going to the bathroom afterwards." couldn't stop laughing. – Korion Apr 12 2012 at 7:41
And the KMUD show about serotonin ends really sad :(, there's a caller who clearly lost all his friends, his wife, his family because of his depression and says "the worst part of depression is the stigma" man I felt bad after that. – Korion Apr 12 2012 at 7:42
Especially because the guy clearly wanted to talk, but they were out of time. – Korion Apr 12 2012 at 7:42

I have added more gelatin to my diet after reading some of Ray Peat's writings.
