Sorry, for me that's a contradiction in terms. I don't find pure chocolate or nut butter a treat. The closest I can come is a nice fatty forkful of beef. – Nance Jan 27 2012 at 22:16
well you're more than welcome to say berries. i'm just curious to see what people eat when they're being mindful of carbs, but are wanting something on the sweeter side. – meret Jan 27 2012 at 23:18

:-)) I like blueberries if I can pick them off a wild bush. But if I can name a fruit, I'll say Florida grapefruit. – Nance Jan 28 2012 at 0:03

berries straight from the bush is one of the best treats ever. i remember in my pre-paleo days, we'd pick them in the yard and then make pancakes on weekends. sigh. – meret Jan 28 2012 at 0:07

my nightly dessert is frozen wild blueberries heated up with some coconut oil and cinnamon. – Renee Jan 28 2012 at 2:09

Coconut Oil, on a spoon.

Coconut butter (yum Artisana!) is a close second for me! – Beth-WeightMaven Jan 27 2012 at 22:57
i don't love it by the spoonful. though i tried the block of creamed coconut today and it was very tasty! – meret Jan 27 2012 at 23:33

it's amazing to me how coconut oil tastes great straight up when my eating is balanced and my protein/fat/carb intake is balanced... as soon as I go to town on a jar of almond butter though, it tastes absolutely foul. i think paleo is training my body to stop overeating.. fantastic! – Phazo Jan 28 2012 at 7:28
@Phazo ...Ive noticed that my body loves starches. By figuring this out I can't over eat anymore(my calories end up at like 1700 daily just because). Paleo is DEFINITELY training my body to stop overeating. Its awesome. – Hoover Jan 28 2012 at 15:17

I gotta go with dark chocolate. My current go-to is Vivani's 85% organic, but I'm eager to try Domori's 100% ... Diane Sanfilippo (Balanced Bites) recently raved about it on Twitter.

i'm really working to like 99 and 100% chocolate. i started mixing some into some heated berries, which is DELICIOUS. now if only i could eat it on it's own... – meret Jan 27 2012 at 23:33

Anything less than 90% and I'm eating it because of the sweetener. At 90% or more I don't find it particularly tasty, so I'm down to adding a little 100% to an occasional cup of coffee to which I'm already adding cream and honey. – Nance Jan 28 2012 at 1:39

Bacon is always nice. :-)

I love dates wrapped in bacon (and stuffed with goat cheese if you're ok with dairy)! – Paleo Designer Jan 28 2012 at 1:34

When I made bacon bites: foodrenegade.com/bacon-wrapped-sweet-potato-bites (Thanks, Food Renegade!) I must say they tasted as sweet as candy to me. – Nance Jan 28 2012 at 1:41

Scharffen Berger 82% Cacao Extra Dark Chocolate bar is quite good. I bought my first one this past weekend. It's way better than any Lindt bar I've eaten. The Scharffen Berger has a nice fruity complex flavor. Most of the Lindt bars I've even are smooth and not bitter yet kind of flat with no complexity in their flavor.

haven't tried the scharffen berger yet -- i usually aim for 90% chocolate and haven't found that they have it. though i think they might have an unsweetened baking chocolate. – meret Jan 27 2012 at 23:32
At one of my local WholeFoods the Scharffen Berger bars were not placed next to all the other dark chocolate bars, they were on a different aisle. I just stumbled upon them by chance and bought one. – Wcc Kamal Stabby fan Jan 27 2012 at 23:41

O.M.G brilliant! thank you for posting! – meret Jan 27 2012 at 23:52
btw...what are some of your favorite ways to use it? – meret Jan 27 2012 at 23:58
Hi Meret - I like the ones with hints of nuts - so the Hacienda las Trincheros (Venezuela), Waslala Superior (Nicaragua) and Caranero Superior (Venezuela). Check his descriptions of the different flavors. You might like more fruity notes. – Prue Jan 28 2012 at 1:39
Meant to add - here's his Facebook page - facebook.com/pages/Willies-Cacao/111050628934252 – Prue Jan 28 2012 at 1:40
Meret - I eat it straight - and I have added it too savory sauces. – Prue Jan 28 2012 at 4:25

This is my all time favorite low carb chocolate sweet treat!! It's a chocolate pudding made with avocados, coconut milk, a little honey, and cocoa.

Young coconuts... drain the juice into a freezer safe bowl, scrape out the flesh and add it to the bowl and then stick it in the freezer. It becomes like a slushee and the flesh becomes a little chewy. Nom nom.

how do you open the coconuts? i'm kinda scared of that process... – meret Jan 28 2012 at 1:28
you tube young coconuts and you will have plenty of videos for assistance :) – paleoprimal Jan 28 2012 at 23:43

Any kind of frozen fruit made into "ice cream" by blending it with a little coconut milk in a food processor until it's creamy. Or make an unsweetened (or fruit-sweetened) custard with eggs and coconut milk.

that's good with nut butter too! :) – landria Jan 28 2012 at 2:17

Half a banana and a spoonful of almond butter warmed up is something I will hit up on a rare occasion. I have to be careful with this one as it's one of the few things that can set me off. A little dark chocolate added to this takes it up a notch. Easy and wonderful.

I'm into nuts less these days, but on occasion, I still enjoy a few treats:

  1. Almond butter + banana slices + dried cranberries + drizzle coconut milk, warmed up briefly in microwave.
  2. Almond butter + Tbsp. cocoa powder + coconut milk + banana + cup o' ice, in blender until smooth.
  3. Cashews dipped in Artisana's Cacao Bliss.

Hachez 88% Premier Cru Chocolate bar - just a trace of sugar, no fake crap, can be found in speciality stores or on the Chocosphere website (cheapest place for rarer chocolates, including this 100% French chocolate I have heard of but not tasted. Also, I like to have a macadamia nut or two with my bits of chocolate since they are kind of sweet tasting to me too.

Sauerkraut. I love the taste of it and its full of nutrients, and no calories really.
