For some reason Organic Valley Butter does not taste very good to me. Anyone else have this same opinion? Kerrygold butter seems to taste much better...

Their pastured butter(not available year round, btw) is a totally different animal than their regular butter. I use that and sjmor. – luckybastard Jan 29 2012 at 17:44

...its also the quality of the grass. Ireland just has good grass. A sweeter variety of grass. That's green all year round (Ireland's weather). So, the butter tastes "better" because it has a yummy sweet undertone that dairy in the US generally lacks...grass fed or not.

+1 I agree, Organic Valley Pasture butter is quite good IMHO. – Wcc Kamal Stabby fan Jan 29 2012 at 15:09
Thanks Scott!!! – Eric Jan 29 2012 at 16:15
It's delicious but it doesn't have the silky texture that Smorj or kerrygold has. I buy all three but generally I use the OV pasture butter to make ghee and use the other two for using whole. My 14 month old seems to like the kerrygold best too. – Aughra Jan 29 2012 at 21:51

Buy New Zealand butter. It is the best I am a New Zealander... I have not been paid to tell you this... but it is the law here... :-)

Too Funny! I do have to try it. Thanks Janet! – Eric Jan 29 2012 at 6:05
ya! Anchor butter is good! – Chanthru Jan 30 2012 at 1:19
I love Kiwi butter (I'm an Aussie). Westgold is GREAT, and very cheap here in Aus. Their salt-free butter is also fab for those of you who like bullet-proof coffee. :-) optimoz.com.au/blogs/news/… – BeefWalker Mar 11 at 23:29

My understanding is there are differences between the two. KerryGold is grass fed 100%. Where as Organic Valley pastures their cows in the peak season but their cows are not 100% grass fed. They do feed their cows grass, hay and various organic grains.

Good to know Christa! – Eric Jan 29 2012 at 7:35
Thank you for that. I was under the impression that OV was 100% pastured. I just bought a pound of kerrygold today and am very satisfied! – Priscilla Jan 29 2012 at 23:00
Looks like I need to try the Kerrygold as well. I thought they were pretty much the same but from the sound of it, very different! – Bandman Jan 31 2012 at 0:13

Just look at the difference in color. Kerry Gold is very yellow. All that wonderful vitamin A can only come from pastured cows. I sometimes will eat a little piece all by itself because it is so yummy.
