Now that you are eating "paleo", do you eat food that you have dropped on the floor without dusting or rinsing it off to get the benefits of the probiotics from the food touching the floor?
It seems kind of silly to worry about a little bit of bacteria when your body is made up of over 90 trillion microbes.
Ha, ha. Always have. Five second rule. Mind you, I don't imagine there are any beneficial probiotics on my floor. And I draw the line at dog hair.
Umm . . . I always have, including my SAD/SHAD days. I'm old enough that I didn't grow up in today's germ-phobic environment. Depending on circumstances I may pick off hair or pop it in my mouth or I may give the item a quick rinse but I don't throw solid things away just because I drop them.
But then, I ate many lunches/snacks in barns and did the same thing there. If anything, I'm unusually healthy and don't get sick all that often so I'm not planning to change.
That said, when handling raw meat and even while cooking it my hands and implements get washed and re-washed until the exteriors of all chunks are well heat-sealed. I'm only casual about things I eat raw.
I used to do this all the time. But now, when I think about the copious amounts of bread my family eats, and all the bread crumbs that must be flying around like evil demons, I don't eat anything that has touched the floor. Who knows how many gluten are on there?
I just today read an article/blog in Scientific American about this very subject, titled "Eating Off the Floor: How Clean Living is Bad for You."
I dropped the cap of an Aquafina in the toilet while I was taking a leak. I thought to myself, "Ah hell, I'm paleo now", and I rinsed it off and continued using it.
Yeah, I eat food off the floor, too.
For me all lines lead to eat it....Hell I've eaten stuff off of other peoples floor that I didnt even drop ;P≥...seriously our society with their purrel and antiseptics and whatnot make me laugh. Me and my kids do none of it and are absolutely less sick for it!
