Umm . . . I always have, including my SAD/SHAD days. I'm old enough that I didn't grow up in today's germ-phobic environment. Depending on circumstances I may pick off hair or pop it in my mouth or I may give the item a quick rinse but I don't throw solid things away just because I drop them.
But then, I ate many lunches/snacks in barns and did the same thing there. If anything, I'm unusually healthy and don't get sick all that often so I'm not planning to change.
That said, when handling raw meat and even while cooking it my hands and implements get washed and re-washed until the exteriors of all chunks are well heat-sealed. I'm only casual about things I eat raw.
