I just wanted to throw this thank you out there. I had been reading (and reading and reading and reading lol) trying to figure out how to go back over to the dark side lol.

My body was craving meat but it took a little while for my mind to catch up and come to terms. I think through reading a lot of these feeds, it made the transition much easier. Happy to say, no longer a vegetarian, a whole new paleo world is opened up and I feel so much better!

I had no issues whatsoever (no upset stomach, nausea, etc) and other than overdoing it a bit portion wise, I'm just planning what to eat next! Please throw out any ideas for awesome meals to try (I started being a vegetarian at age 10 so I have A LOT to catch up on!).

Hopefully if there are any other people out there in the same position, this might help them too. I felt good for a while as a vegetarian but I guess hit the point where my body needed more. Please make sure to listen to your body's cues... and you cant go wrong with pulled pork ;)

-Crack open a couple of eggs and sizzle them in a pool of glistening butter.

-Savor thick cuts of fatty grassfed meat smothered with decadent coconut oil.

-Bask in the glorious world of meats and fats.

It's so easy to write flowery about paleo food!

I was also a vegetarian since the 3rd grade. I was so proud to be a vegetarian, even though I was anemic, tired most of the time and depressed. I never once considered that my diet might be the cause. I have been paleo for 5 months and have never felt better. I still only eat eggs and fish, I haven't been able to totally convert. I still think the Vegetarian lifestyle is better than eating processed food and poisoned meat. It is also more sustainable, and humane. It is tough to balance the choice of taking care of yourself and taking care of the planet. If I were to eat any meat it would only be grass fed organic. I am starting this week to make pho with a bone broth over kelp noodles. My last attempt was a PHO-KING-DISASTER. I hope to get it right this time and perhaps add some meat to my diet.

Question: Do your vegetarian friends resent you? I got a lot of flack from tome of the people I know who are vegan/vegetarian. Also, I do find the vegetarian bashing on this site offensive at times as a former vegetarian.

As a current vegetarian, I find the vegetarian bashing on this site offensive too – Aravind Jan 30 2012 at 23:46

More likely it's simply returning the favor to the self-righteous accusatory veg*ns we've known over the years but hitting all of them even those who are kind and hail-fellow-well-met types. Doesn't work to lower oneself to the same level as the pricks, but sometimes it's hard to resist opening fire. Forgetting their all sorts of innocents in the crossfire. Likewise, sometime an attack is seen when there was no such thing. – Anondson Jan 31 2012 at 4:55
it's been awkward because I've caught so much flack for so long about being a vegetarian. I never forced my opinion on anyone else though and my reasonings were exactly that.. my own =) I do agree there are way too many self righteous ones that give the normal ones a bad name. I must say I haven't felt better, my sleeping is amazing and I stay full dramatically longer. Have hit 2 new gym PRs since the weekend. coincidence? maybe but I have to say I'm very glad I took the plunge. Lisa, do it in your own time but listen to what your body needs =) – Lo Jan 31 2012 at 14:04
and I really dont have very many vegetarian friends. I'm from an italian family so my 15 year vegetarian stint was practically blasphemy to them – Lo Jan 31 2012 at 14:05
I have few vegetarian friends (I don't discriminate) but that's just the way it is. All of them have health problems and most know it's due to their vegetarianism and they've told me. None of them are evangelical, so they don't care if I eat meat in front of them. I've never known anyone vegan that I would consider close, and I just think their politics/beliefs border on the extreme. – Lady_Arwen Jan 31 2012 at 20:31

Lo,

There are a lot of amazing recipes on here. When it comes to my own cooking, I tend to think in terms of ingredients. Recent favorites are kale with mushrooms and onions, sauteed apples and oinions with minced garlic and pesto, and anything involving eggs and beef or lamb.

I ate vegetarian for a little while, and I discovered that I really craved fish. I still eat salmon all the time.

Hopefully these give you some ideas. Remember, a lot of vegetarian dishes you made can become paleo with the addition of meat and good fats!

I really didn't even transition...I ate pulled pork at a cuban restaurant, next day pulled beef and then chicken "tacos" with cabbage leaves...went all out =) Next up, burgers..bacon... It's almost like I'm fixated at this point! I just figured there has to be favorites I've been missing out on all this time! – Lo Jan 30 2012 at 21:43
oh, well if you want favorite meats, imo it's beef ribs or anything lamb. Still hunting for lamb bacon. – Caleb the Hobbit Jan 31 2012 at 2:36

I'd get yourself a good recipe book with great pictures. Something like Everyday Paleo or Well Fed. It's a great way to introduce yourself to new flavors and cooking techniques.

I spent quite a bit of time reading and lurking before making the change to Paleo. I was a vegetarian for 20+ years and decided I needed to tweak my diet due to problems with fatigue, mood and energy swings, arthritis and joint pain, and difficulty building muscle.

I've been doing disciplined paleo now since December 26 with absolutely no issues transitioning back to being an omnivore. Feel better than I have in years!!

So I'll extend the same thank you, lots of info here helped me make the change and supported my shift!
