So, I have been pretty much 100% Paleo since the beginning of the year. I worked on it a bit during December but cheated quite a bit during the holidays. I am finding that I am hacking up some pretty dark phlegm (not a ton, but more than usual) in the mornings and last night I was pretty congested. I have been around some sick people lately but have not felt sick myself. I do not have a history of nasal congestion prior to going Paleo.

Anyway, my question is this, have other people experienced this when first going Paleo? I thought that maybe my body was doing a detox kind of thing but it has been a month so I thought this might be a little long.

Any thoughts?

Thanks a lot.

Not a helpful answer, but anything different in your environment, or are you pretty dang sure it's diet related? I only ask because going paleo helps reduce chronic inflammation, and I've had chronic sinusitis... but it's a lot better since going paleo. – Chris Feb 1 2012 at 0:12
No, I am not sure it is diet related, that is just the biggest change I have made. There have been a lot of people sick around me so it is possible that I am just feeling it a little instead of getting fully sick like everyone else. I believe this would be a good thing and probably related to the diet. – spayne Feb 2 2012 at 18:29

Are you Paleo or Primal? Silly, I know. But Paleo= no dairy...and Primal= some high fat dairy. (based on Mark Sission's take)

Try warm lemon water when you wake in the morning to break that up. I guess you could so it at night also!

Not silly, a good question since I think dairy would be a good answer. But no, I have been dairy free for over a month. The congestion is not too bad, worse in the morning, but just kind of nagging. Thanks. – spayne Feb 2 2012 at 18:27

Try some Mucinex to clear out that chest thing you have going before getting full blown bronchitis or pneumonia. If your congested it could = a cold by itself, or the same virus/bacteria you have in your chest. Drink a lot of water and tea with the mucinex. If you have a high fever, seek medical help and a short duration of antibiotics.
