Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site but so far it has been an incredible resource for me. I was wondering if there is currently any type of guide/website with "paleo friendly" meals from common restaurants? This would be super helpful when people want to eat out but stay paleo instead of asking the restaurant a bunch of questions about each thing on the menu. (what oils they use to cook, what's in something, etc)

If there ISN'T something like this and other people are interested, I would like to put something together for all of us to use (free of course). I'm a partner at a full service web design/development agency so I can make a really handy website for us.

If we go ahead and do this I'm going to need the help of the community though! I can do all of the website/technical stuff but I need help putting together the content - what restaurants are paleo friendly and which specific dishes/meals are as well. I'm thinking if enough people contribute we can even create different pages for specific cities and list restaurants/meals for all kinds of places around the world. Wouldn't that be awesome for traveling?

EDIT

I haven't been able to find one well organized resource online that just tells me which places have paleo-friendly meals so I'm going to build a website that does just that. I'm going to need a lot of help with the content though, so this is what I need from YOU guys:

I created an easy to fill out form where you can enter the name of the restaurant, the meal(s), and any other relevant information. If everyone can take a few minutes and fill this out with as many places/meals as possible we can get a really solid resource put together. I want it to be simple enough that you can search the site and instantly see if there are any paleo-friendly meals, and if not it'll give you a bunch of alternatives.

I do realize that letting anyone fill out the form can lead to mistakes (i.e. submitting a non-paleo meal) so if one or two highly qualified paleo-ers are willing to look through the responses to make sure the meals are all "Ok" let me know!

link to the form: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/embeddedform?formkey=dGc0Z004S2J2R1BpQjZhMy1tclh3NlE6MQ

please pass this around and share it so we can get as much data for the site as possible!

If you search "paleo-friendly" you'll find a number of questions about restaurants in specific areas that would be useful to many if combined. – Nance Jan 31 2012 at 21:34
Hey, I've been working on this as well. It's a great idea. I'm currently gathering info as well. The paleo folks sure could use something like this! :) – Jaime Feb 13 2012 at 0:30

I LOVE this idea! A page with "what to ask your server" if the restaurant isn't a chain would be great too.

The two most paleo friendly places I've found in my area are Chipoltle and BD's Mongolian BBQ, mostly because they have the ingredients laid out before you. Barring that, a steak house is usually a good choice. But even then, a greasy spoon can usually serve up an edible steak and eggs, but don't expect it to be free of meat glue, and don't expect free range grass fed beef either.

It would be very difficult to post recommendations of various dishes at other places because you won't always know what's in the sauces, dressing, etc., and the waitstaff probably won't know either. It can also change without notice.

I see no reason to not do this if you have the time and server space to do it, though. It would be a good gauge to see how popular the diet has become. As a general rule, the longer I do this way of life, the less I want to eat at restaurants.

I want simple. Too complex and I'll waste far too much time looking for food in some guide. I checked out a few apps, I found PaleoGoGo met my needs.

Put in a restaurant and it gives you 3 meals to look for. Period. There may be more in the menu, but this is excellent for my needs to get my choice quick. If I have more time to sit before choosing I'll stare at the choices further and interrogate the server. ;)

Sounds like a great idea for some tech-y person to create an app! Or... I have noticed a few paleo apps for my iPhone (none are that great), perhaps someone could enhance an existing app to have this feature? Sounds like a GREAT idea!

Edited the original post - I'm going to start working on the website. Everyone please read the edit and fill out the form! I want to have as much variety on the site as possible so share this page and/or the form with all your paleo friends so we can beef up the site :)

Great Idea Tom. Have you gotten anywhere on the website? I'm a professional programmer/app developer and would love to collaborate on this to make it generally available to the primal community.

Hey Scott! Would love your help on the website. We've made some progress on developing it but we need a lot of help getting together the meals/locations database put together. If you want to drop me an email (tom@mediabuilt.com) we can collab and see if we can make this happen. :) – tomlambert Jul 13 at 4:37

Do you want only franchises or local restaurants as well?
