For the past month and a half I've had soreness and clicking in the hip area. I haven't really changed my workout although come to think of it I did start learning to front squat around that time. With an unloaded bar though. This makes squatting quite difficult. I took a month off of running which did not help. I don't run long distances, mostly sprints and it doesn't seem to make it worse.

Only squatting and occasionally deadlifts seem to cause soreness. The clicking when I sit in lotus or in a squat and stand up really freaks me out.

Any ideas about why this is happening? Or what I should do about it?

Have you tried a Mobility WOD

Thank you, I stretch consistently but not like that. Hopefully it will help! – Olivia Feb 3 2012 at 21:34
That particular WOD helped hugely with my tight hip flexors. My squats got deeper and more stable. – CharlotteM Feb 3 2012 at 21:43

Sounds like snapping hip syndrome. There's several tendons that can catch on bony parts there. Stretching beforehand can help.
