I have a low-sugar dark chocolate (74% cocoa) and hazelnut bar that comes in at 21g sugar per 100g bar. I view this literally as a piece of fruit, if anything healthier than your average piece of fruit! It has less sugar than many fruit, good fats in the cocoa butter, and better antioxidants/polyphenols/phytonutrients than most fruit! Cocoa has a huge amount of empirical evidence in favour of its use in a healthy diet.
I eat a 100g (3.5 oz) block a day! Sometimes for breakfast :) My coworkers think I am crazy, but they haven't been saying much lately since veins started popping up on my abs!
Paleo really is almost too good to be true!
If you want to be strict - no. However lots of people have some, especially the high cocoa percentage (say 70%).
Ultimately, if a bit of chocolate from time to time is a hook sufficient enough to keep you eating paleo most of the time, you'll be infinitely better off doing that than the SAD or other trash diet

Since you're just getting started it's probably ok to think in black & white terms of "allowed" and "not allowed." But staying in that mind-frame will make things less enjoyable, IMO.
With that said, 80% - 90% chocolate is very low in sugar and actually has antioxidants. Enjoy some occasionally without over-doing it, and it's very unlikely that you will undo the benefits of following a paleo diet.
I dislike anything under 80% now, and have found that what I want isn't the sugar,it's the fat and the chocolate.It's easy to make at home..some coconut fat and cocoa..if you want nuts/fruit/sweetener throw it in.That way you skip nasties like the soy emulsifiers.
I usually eat an ounce or so or unsweetened chocolate when I'm feeling the cravings. Since it's pretty bitter, you usually can't eat too much anyway. I'm going to try making my own soon with cocoa powder, coconut oil and unsweetened coconut.

I have no trouble with the occasional piece of 85% dark chocolate... and more to the point, I feel that "I have no trouble with" is a good standard to use for the stuff that seems marginal. Some paleo folks won't eat bacon, I rarely start a day without it; some paleo folks eat/drink a lot of dairy, I rarely consume any other than butter. Put another way, beyond the obvious stuff like sugar and grains and the other neolithic disease agents, it sometimes depends on how your body reacts to stuff, because reactions vary widely.
There is controversy in the paleo/primal community about whether "cocoa", not chocolate, is allowed. chocolate always has sugar & other additives in it (including milk). I'm of the opinion that raw cacao (from the real cacao plant) is fine - use it like a spice.
Others I think will say a piece of dark chocolate every now and again can't hurt, may even be beneficial. If you "love" chocolate, or can't live without it, chocolate or cocoa powder may re-ignite cravings that might impede your progress.
The only thing keeping me from consuming good dark chocolate is it all has processed sugar in it. Anytime I see "sugar free" it usually contains an artificial sweetener which is even worse than sugar itself.

You will be able to order online soon,but in the meantime you could ask yor local natural foods store if they will carry it. It is sweetened with raw organic honey. It is gluten,dairy,soy and gmo free.I have been a raw food it's for 3 years and have begun paleo recently.I eat raw chocolate almost every day...I believe if it works for you it's great,but I know people with allergies to it and they can only eat it in small doses.I love paleo because there are so many more options for recipes and just a heap of health benefits.
