I'm interested in what everyone's favorite meals are and where they got them. Here are my top favorite recipes. These are in no particular order, I love them all equally.

I didn't include some of my more simpler recipes that I love, just because you can't really call "fried apples on liver" or "horseradish drawn butter" recipes, they are two ingredients combined...

  1. Chocolate Chili (From the WellFed Cookbook)
  2. Pho (From Latest In Paleo blog)
  3. Macadamia Mint-Curry Pesto with Lamb (My own invention)
  4. Shepherd's Pie (My grandmother's recipe, with some twists to make it safe - she'd probably be pissed that I was using tomato paste instead of roux for a thickener)
  5. Seafood stew (my own, very simple invention, when starting on Paleo years ago I used to buy frozen mixed seafood, with octopus, squid, shrimp, mussels, and other goodies... I messed around with a tomato based soup, with shrimp shells simmered into it until I got it right, then I would strain out the shells, add veggies and seafood, and cook it for an hour).

I frackin' LOVE the chocolate chilli from Wellfed. I half the cumin though to let the chocolate richness shine through. Plus we're not cumin fans so it works out great. And definitely going to check out the Pho link. Thanks. – MeepsIsWellfed Feb 5 2012 at 3:41
Is there a link to the chocolate chili online? I'm starting to develop paleo recipes of my own and that sounds amazing. – Caleb the Hobbit Feb 5 2012 at 3:43
@Caleb - The recipe is in the sample pdf download, but I will say that the e-book is fairly inexpensive and there are many more recipes that are pretty darn awesome. – Joshua Feb 5 2012 at 6:43
@MeepsIsWellfed - I do the same thing with the Cumin, I take it down by 1/2 tbsp. I actually bump up the cocoa to 2 tablespoons. I also use garam masala in place of allspice, but after having it both ways, the change is very subtle and both are fantastic. – Joshua Feb 5 2012 at 6:46

Every time this comes up I name Bacon Bites on Food Renegade as my favorite.

Next, I'd say my blueberry water kefir if we consider that eligible.

Third, bone broth stew with fennel, rutabaga, lots of beef, brussels sprouts and a when-done addition of shellfish steamed in broth that's dumped back into the stew.

The other 2 in my top 5 aren't recipes: fatty beef, any cut, and a great red plum or grapefruit.

lamb shanks slow-cooked in wine, stock, sundried tomatoes, olives, herbs and middle eastern spices

liver with bacon, onions and a side of sweet potato mash

stewed sardines with rice, sundried tomatoes, and greens

coconut green curry with salmon, and whatever veggies i have handy

avocado, chocolate "mousse" made with avocado, cacao powder, coconut milk, stevia

i usually make my meals up based on what i have at home...i don't have any go-to resources, though i get some inspiration from a number of primal / paleo blogs...or i just modify 'regular' recipes to make them primal.

1) Roasted lamb shoulder with mint-pistachio pesto. Just blend one bunch of mint, a handful of pistachios, and a load of olive oil. Coat the lamb after it's been cooked. For the actual cooking, course salt, fresh pepper. Voila!

2) "Creton"- this is a Quebecois (French Canadian) pork spread that is so freaking good on everything. You cook some ground pork with extra pork fat, yellow onion, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of cream. Cook it low for about two hours, then pour it into a ramekin and let it cool. I smear it on slices of raw-milk brie, and serve it with fig slices in the summer for a treat. It is delicious! Also, very reminiscent for me.

3) 1 lb of spot prawns, less than an hour out of the ocean, thrown into boiling water for 30 seconds, then served with garlic butter. I could eat this every day, and do for some stretches during the summer.

4) Raw oysters, topped with red wine vinegar and shallot. Simple, but I could eat them forever. For different serving, habanero peppers and reduced balsamic vinegar.

5) Sockeye salmon, cooked on a smoking cedar plank, rubbed with garlic, salt and pepper. Loads of fresh lemon, some capers if that's your thing. I eat this for breakfast whenever possible in the summer, best way to start the day!

Wow, Jenny J! Wow. I'm going to try Creton. Thanks. – redberry Feb 5 2012 at 3:30

Chowstalker.com, fastpaleo.com, and thefoodee.com are all Paleo-inspired recipe sharing sites, pretty good for inspiration.

I also run my own site thedomesticman.com that focuses on making historical and traditional meals that are mostly Paleo-friendly already. I don't see much sense in trying to reinvent the wheel every night when humankind has been making dishes for thousands of years already.

Top meals at my house when I'm not coming up with new recipes:

  1. Roasting a whole chicken
  2. Steaks with various seasonings depending on the accompaniments
  3. Slow roasted pork shoulder (kalua pig, pulled pork, etc)
  4. Chuck roasts - browned in a dutch oven then roasted in oven
  5. Burgers, salisbury steak, or taco meat using ground beef or chipped steak

Dude, your food porn is awesome! – Matt Feb 5 2012 at 16:39
Thanks Matt! I pride myself in taking pictures that focus on the food and not having to rely on props. Unfortunately, that also means that sites like Tastespotting and Food Gawker continuously reject my submissions since they don't fit conventional food photography standards. :( – Russ Feb 5 2012 at 17:47

Paleo Chicken Fingers are MY FAVE!! Whenever i'm craving something naughty, I make these and they aren't naughty at all! Just chicken in almond meal, eggs, and some spices and fry in coconut oil. Found the recipe here:

http://paleomama.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/paleo-fried-chicken-fingers/

and sub the olive oil for coconut oil. DELICIOUS!!

Four of my answers would be for things you'd expect: ginger beef, lemon chicken, steaks, egg bakes, etc.

But the thing I'm totally addicted to right now is a recipe I found on Paleohacks: Carl_Stawicki's favorite paleo comfort dish. It includes ground beef, bacon, and... and guacamole. I know, who can imagine that combination? But it's yummy.

I'm a fan of Robb Wolf matrix-esque meals myself, but when I'm up for cooking fancy food I get all my recipes from ChowStalker.com
