I'm looking for dry rub suggestions, primarily for pork (ribs, roasts, etc.), but also for other meats. I've been using a rub that's 3 parts salt, 3 parts paprika, 1 part garlic powder and 1 part dry mustard, but I'm looking for new ideas. I'd especially like to find something that gives a little sweetness without using heapings of sugar, though I'm not sure if that's possible.

I got this info from akd. World Spice Merchants has some great pure spices and spice blends. Even if you don't plan to purchase anything from them, just looking around at some the blends should give you some good ideas. |

I got some lapsang souchong tea specifically to add to salt & pepper for making a rub for smoked tea duck. After the first try the flavor is good, but keep the temperature down. The dry tea gave me more smoke than I could handle. |

I've been wanting to try some Butt Rub which I ran across in Slankers' online store. The ingredients are onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika and chipotle (smoked jalapeno). Curious to know if anyone has used it and what they think of it. Apparently "A Little Butt Rub Makes Everything Better". |

I've used a similar rub for years, but with smoked paprika instead (gives a nice BBQ flavor) and I've also mixed it with very small amounts of honey to make a paste for jerky. For Chicken and Pork I'll also add Turmeric. |

A little sugar isn't going to kill ya. Add it in if it gives you the flavor you're looking for. |
