Does lactose consumption (of those with the enzyme lactase) have a similar effect to our bodies insulin production as added sugars in SAD foods?
Well it gives an insulin response but not from the lactose alone. A good read from Mark.
( p.s. testing blood glucose is not the same as testing insulin reaction. A food can produce an insulin response without a corresponding rise in bs.)
As in all things, I assume people vary widely in this.
I just did an in-depth bg test and I'm happy to report my bg barely noticed when I ate about a cup of home-made yogurt with a banana. I think it was 106 or something 45 minutes later.
Glad to have an answer for this as well. The nutritionist that I was sent to in my first pregnancy when I was diagnosed with Gestastional Diabetes told me to avoid milk in the mornings as it spikes insulin levels. But I disproved her on many other points of nutrition as well.
