What are your most preferred and least preferred meats? Feel free to include why you like or dislike a meat.
Beef Steaks. Porterhouse, Eye Fillet, Rib Eye, Scotch. I love them all. Cooked rare.
Why? Because they taste amazing! :)
I'll give a special mention to liver for it's super food properties.
I don't think I've come across a meat that I have a dislike for.
Least favorite: chicken. I don't even care about the omega-6 content. It just has no flavor to me. I could put 10 different herbs/spices and I'd still be like
But my favorite: Bison. New York Steak or ribeye steak (which I just had tonight for dinner). A really close second would be beef chuck. Why? The fat.
1: Beef (preferably roasts, but I also like steaks cooked medium-rare, but I don't buy it often enough to know which kinds of steaks).
2: Fish of all kinds, but I like cod, shrimp, sardines (grilled) and maybe trout, but that might be because I grew up that way.
3: Pork (pork shoulder is nice, but I like center cut roasts as well).
4: I hate poultry, but I can tolerate legs and thighs. But no matter how much chicken I eat, I'm hungry, unless it's got coconut milk or fatty things like that. Oh, I like small birds (pigeon and such), grilled.
But growing up....
I hated beef, but I think it's because my mom overcooked it. She's a great cook and all, but her steaks... (don't tell her I told you that!...)
was ok with grilled chicken legs, preferably grilled,
LOVED pork better than candy,
and loooooved all fish.
But I always had ravenous beef cravings, then I would try and eat it, but I'd just gag and spit it out. I'm so glad I can eat beef now! Yuuummmy!
My preferred meat (sounds so dirty.. let's leave my boyfriend out of this) is definitely fish, especially of the raw orientation ;p I absolutely love love LOVE sashimi and I eat it almost every day. My favorite is salmon, which is awesome cooked and just outta sight raw.
I like a good NY strip as much as the next American, but steak isn't my favorite. I loooove beef tongue (especially in tacos de lengua) and stomach (as in menudo). It's funny.. I'm having such a hard time getting used to liver but tongue and stomach have been staples in my diet for as long as I can remember!
Chicken is... ehh. I exhausted my tolerance for chicken meat during my chronic-dieting, plain-grilled-skinless-chicken-breast-centered days.
I haven't eaten pig since 2007, because I'm speciesist and I want a pig as a pet. (:
A sweet, tender roasted leg of lamb.... mmmmnn. Wish it wasn't so pricey - even most of us Kiwi's can't afford our own NZ Lamb cuts! Venison is probably a close second. Not really so keen on chicken if I'm going to pick a least favourite. It just lacks that satisfaction red meat delivers.
Lamb wins hands down. It's just the best tasting meat. We've just received half a lamb from a farmer my DF knows/works with. We're due a cow share too (grassfed!!!).
My favourite fish is mackerel & then sardines. I wasn't that keen on salmon, but quite like it now!
Least favourite meats, I don't have one in particular, but I sicken myself if I have too much pork or chicken. Not keen on liver, but trying to find a way to get over the texture. It's not the taste, it's definitely a texture thing with that one! I can eat pâté though :-)!!!
